Senior Controls Engineer TGW Systems Inc - 3.6 Grand Rapids, MI Job Details Full-time 21 hours ago Qualifications Computer operation Computer literacy Writing skills Computer skills Full Job Description The Controls Team Lead - Specialized Engineering supervises a team of Controls Technical Lead - Specialized Machines to design and integrate controls systems for industrial material-handling solutions and production lines. This position works closely with the other Controls Team Leads and reports to the Manager of Controls Commissioning.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Guides team of Controls Technical Lead - Specialized Machines and performs supervisory tasks including scheduling, review and approval of timecards, time-off requests, expense reports, and performance management activities (with support of manager). Leads the design, development, and commissioning of control systems using PLCs to meet project requirements. Writes and debugs Controls applications to ensure proper functioning of control systems. Create Descriptions of Operations for material handling solutions based on customer requirements. Manages integration of prototype solutions and creates handover documentation to transition knowledge to Controls Commissioning Engineers. Provides support for installed systems, performing preventative maintenance and implementing system upgrades as required. Creates and maintains documentation of controls activities. Travels to projects both domestically and internationally. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Controls-related field (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science) or equivalent work experience.
Experience:
Ten (10) or more years of hands-on Controls Engineering experience, preferably in material-handling, industrial, or warehouse environment.
Travel:
Up to 30% travel, domestically and internationally Skills & Abilities Robust knowledge of PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems. Thorough understanding of electrical and mechanical principles, with the ability to read e-drawings and AutoCAD drawings. Prior experience in formal or informal leadership roles. Demonstrated experience working on full design-to-production project lifecycles. In-depth knowledge of industrial automation and control systems. Knowledge of Siemens TIA Portal and C++ or other programming language a bonus. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk around industrial and/or warehouse environment for prolonged periods of time. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at a time. Ability to operate computers, tablets, phones, and other electronic devices. Visual and auditory abilities to work safely with and around moving and/or motorized equipment, machinery, parts, and electricity that require safety protocols Ability to move and use muscles for extended periods of time without fatigue. Ability to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces. Ability to communicate regularly with others verbally and in writing. Ability to tolerate exposure to job site temperature fluctuations due to seasonal weather in geographic region The physical demands described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
