What We Need:
.The Controls Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and automation systems within a food manufacturing facility. This role supports plant operations by ensuring PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, instrumentation, and automated production equipment operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with food safety standards. The Controls Technician works closely with Maintenance, Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to minimize downtime and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
What You Will Do:
Troubleshoot and repair PLC-controlled equipment (Allen Bradley, Siemens, or similar). Diagnose and resolve issues related to sensors, motors, VFDs, relays, and control panels. Perform electrical and controls preventive maintenance activities. Interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, and wiring diagrams. Assist in programming and modifying PLC and HMI systems under direction. Maintain and troubleshoot industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, etc.). Respond to production line breakdowns with urgency to minimize downtime. Support high-speed packaging, processing, and CIP systems. Assist with startup and commissioning of new equipment. Follow GMP, HACCP, and plant food safety policies at all times. Maintain proper documentation for maintenance activities and audit readiness. Identify root causes of recurring electrical failures and recommend improvements.
What You Need:
Technical degree or certification in Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, or related field preferred. 3+ years of industrial controls experience (food manufacturing preferred). Strong PLC troubleshooting skills. Ability to read electrical drawings and schematics. Experience with VFDs, instrumentation, and motor controls. Knowledge of 24VDC, 120V, and 480V systems. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Physical Requirements Prolonged standing and walking throughout the plant. Ability to work in varying temperature environments (hot, cold, humid). Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to climb ladders and work in elevated areas. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or off-shifts as needed. Work Environment Food manufacturing facility environment with exposure to wet, humid, and refrigerated conditions. Must adhere to all PPE and food safety requirements. Compensation will be determined based on experience, technical skill level, certifications, and demonstrated automation troubleshooting capability
