Job Description

Are you ready to embark on an exciting journey with a builder of high-visibility architectural products for renowned clients around the world? Design Communications Ltd. (DCL) is a premier custom manufacturer of specialty signage, custom interiors, unique lighting solutions, themed environments, tech-integrated installations, and elaborate sculptural elements with offices in Greater Boston, New York, and Orlando. Currently, we're on the lookout for a highly creative and self-motivated Scenic Artist to join our spectacularly talented Fabrication team, recognized as the best in the world at what they do! At DCL, we value positive attitudes, quick thinking, and professionalism. You'll collaborate with Fabricators and Project Managers to construct immersive environments and sculptural elements using a mix of materials such as wood, foam, and other media. Success in this role requires not just strong craftsmanship but also an artistic eye, adaptability in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to safety and precision. Scenic Construction Experience :
Minimum of 3+ years of experience in theme painting, including working with Polygem/Habitat materials
Surface Preparation & Finishing:
Proficient in all phases of scenic prep and finish work, from surface cleaning and sanding through priming, base coats, specialty faux finishes, and final clear coats.
Color Theory & Specialty Coatings:
Proficient in scenic paint systems, color mixing, and application methods, including wood staining and advanced use of Polygem for textured and themed finishes.
Craftsmanship & Creativity :
Excellent hands-on building skills paired with an artistic sensibility and creative problem-solving
Indoor/Outdoor Scenic Operations:
Adaptable to a range of work environments, from indoor fabrication spaces to outdoor project sites.
Technical Fluency :
Ability to interpret and execute shop drawings or concept sketches with accuracy
Tool Proficiency :
Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, table saws, routers, and related carpentry equipment
Material Versatility :
Proficient in faux finishing techniques, including wood graining, patinas, marbling, and related finishes
Work Ethic :
Capable of maintaining a clean, safe, and organized workspace
Reliability :
Willingness to work extended hours and travel for on-site scenic installations as required.
Time Management :
Work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects at the same time
Physical Capability :
Able to lift 50+ pounds, climb stairs regularly, and stand for extended periods
Sense of Humor and Communication Skills :
Maintain a positive attitude and excellent communication skills; both written and verbal Pride in
