Teaching Full Job Description Overview:
VIBE is a learning community where we foster communication for neurodivergent nonspeakers or minimally speaking (echolalia) individuals. In addition, VIBE offers academic tutoring for children with ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, learning disabilities, sensory processing issues, and more.
SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS
Under the supervision of the Director of VIBE Learning Center, Communication Practitioners will provide instruction to students of all ages, learning the skills to communicate through text-based spelling approaches, as a form of communication, in order to advance the student's ability to learn, communicate, socialize, and support client emotional and physical regulation. This position will require a thorough knowledge (with training) of best practices of teaching students who spell, point, or type to communicate. Must be able to plan, develop and implement individualized lessons with appropriate supports for students of varying ages and abilities.
EXPERIENCE & TRAINING
One year of prior experience and a demonstrated history of providing student support, or training, coaching, tutoring or teaching neurodivergent nonspeaking or minimally speaking autistic individuals.
EDUCATION
Associates Degree or Teaching Degree/License (preferred, however, relevant experience will be considered) Experience or previous training with Rapid Prompting Method, Spellers Method, Spelling to Communicate or other AAC teaching devices is a definite advantage. Along with your training background, VIBE Learning Center will provide comprehensive online and practical in person training in order to help you develop the skills to support our students and provide the high standard of individualized services provided to VIBE families.
COMMUNICATION PRACTITIONER EXPECTATIONS
Commit to work for VIBE Learning Center as a Communication Practitioner for 18 months after the successful completion of a training period. Be available to work daytime business hours between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm on Monday - Thursdays. Commit to commute to our Harahan location for training (2-3 days per week). Training consists of 12 weeks of online and in-person experience. The training program costs and time are paid for by VIBE and paid at a training rate lower than the position rate. Commit to work between 14-25 hours weekly as a Communication Practitioner with VIBE students in person at our Gonzales office with flexibility to work at our Harahan office to cover our client base. Applicants should be able to speak and write in English proficiently. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States, and submit to and pass a criminal background check. Communication Practitioners must exhibit the highest level of professional care, patience, and respect for autistic individuals and their families at all times, and be willing to learn about best ways to support autistic people from those people themselves.
Pay:
From $25.00 per hour
