As the heart of the Eliot School, instructors cultivate an environment of "radical weing" while engaging inmunication with students, staff, and throughout their presence at the school. They serve as champions of Eliot School's brand—both inside and outside its walls, embodying its mission and values while promoting itsmitment to quality and safety standards through their teaching. Teaching Opportunities Instructors may submit proposals to teach during any of our three term offerings. The school considers bothmunity demand, price, and available space during the course (up to eight sessions) or workshop (1-2 sessions) selection process. The school's adult summer courses are limited and take place only during the evenings due to ourprehensive Summer Program For Youth.

  • create something tangible by the end of class. Short, high-reward workshops
  • weekend or 1-3 day projects that produce a finished piece. Weekend classes for kids & teens
  • fun, engaging projects in a variety of mediums, including sewing and woodworking with hand tools. Mixed media & interdisciplinary experiments
  • explore newbinations of materials and techniques. Functional & usable art
  • make objects to wear, use, display, or gift. Textile & fiber revival
  • embroidery, weaving, upcycling, visible mending, and upholstery projects. Need for teachers who teach basic and intermediate sewing! Woodworking & maker-focused projects
  • craft a specific object or learn a technique, including woodturning, woodcarving, boxes, benches, and other tangible projects. Need for woodworking teachers with experience in teaching children/youth! Celebrating diverse perspectives & traditions
  • draw inspiration from Boston's richmunity and immigrant heritage.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Propose visual arts or woodworking courses for youth and/or adult students through our online request form. All submissions require a full list of materials needed and, depending on the class, apleted prototype of the project/deliverable to be considered. Upon acceptance, instructors develop and submit curriculum/lesson plans covering the duration of the course/workshop in accordance with deadlines set by the school, allowing sufficient time for both the instructor and the school to procure materials and prep for the course/workshop. Lead Instructors may oversee a Teaching Assistant and/or Program Aide and responsible for orienting them to the tools and techniques needed to effectively assist. Create, prep, and teach developmentally appropriate, medium-specific lessons that allow students to acquire skills andplete projects. Respond to the school's surveys to assist us in continually improving our program offerings and delivery, and participate in program-wide activities, staff meetings, and professional development, as relevant. Provide clear and timelymunication with Eliot School program staff to keep operations and information flowing. Classroom Culture, Instruction, & Management Create a weing, professional, safe, creative, and fun environment for learning. Maintain the highest standards and practices of safety for all participants. Set, reinforce, and model behavioral expectations for students and staff. Ensure classroom spaces are left clean and materials stored after daily programming ends. Contribute to keepingmons areas, and d supplies clean andanized. Administer first aid as needed.
Qualifications:
Required Skills & Abilities Strongmitment to the Eliot School's mission of inspiring lifelong learning in craft and creativity for all Deep understanding and demonstrated skill in their declared artistic medium for their proposed courses or workshops Previous teaching experience for the course level (youth vs adult) Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and reliably Creative and resourceful Excellentanizational skills and attention to detail Flexible with changing needs at the school Comfort with technology, eagerness to learn, and ability to adapt to new software and systems Demonstrated emotional intelligence, humility, culturalpetence, feedback skills, and the ability to sustain trusted relationships with a wide array of people Bilingual fluency a plus
