Job Description

Custom Picture Framer (Part-Time) About the Role We are seeking an experienced Custom Picture Framer to join our shop in a hands-on production role focused on precision, craftsmanship, and high-quality output. This position centers on cutting, joining, fitting, and production workflow. The ideal candidate has strong technical framing experience, works confidently with shop equipment, possesses a strong design sense, and consistently produces clean, accurate work with minimal oversight. This role is being hired with long-term growth in mind. We are looking for someone who is self-directed, communicates clearly, and is interested in learning the full scope of a framing business over time—including production, client work, and shop operations. Key Responsibilities Cut and join frame moulding accurately and efficiently. Operate pneumatic underpinner machine (including Cassese CS200) and other framing equipment safely and effectively Inspect incoming moulding for defects, damage, and consistency before production Cut, join, and finish framing components according to work orders Maintain high standards of craftsmanship across all production work Support daily production flow, prioritization, and shop organization Serve as a resource for developing framers, helping maintain consistent production standards, workflows, and craftsmanship across the shop Assist with packaging, delivery preparation, and installation readiness Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized workspace Required Qualifications Professional experience in custom picture framing Strong frame cutting, joining, and fitting skills Experience operating pneumatic underpinner equipment Ability to accurately read and execute work orders Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship Strong design sense and ability to make aesthetically sound framing decisions Ability to work independently and as part of a team Required Skills & Qualities Experience with hand tools, power tools, and shop safety practices Strong measurement skills and comfort with basic math for layout and cuts Must successfully pass a measurement and math skills assessment Ability to manage time, prioritize work, and meet deadlines in a production environment Reliable, punctual, and consistently dependable Clear, direct communication and ability to collaborate in a small team setting Comfortable handling multiple active projects at once Willingness to learn new techniques, materials, and workflows Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs High school diploma or equivalent required Comfort using basic digital tools (eventual POS systems and production tracking software) Preferred Qualifications Experience with Cassese CS200 underpinner or similar equipment Familiarity with conservation or archival framing practices Experience with shadowboxes, oversized work, or specialty framing Experience stretching canvases, mounting artwork, and cutting mats Background in frame shops, galleries, museums, or design studios Experience working directly with clients or designers on framing decisions Ability to perform minor frame repairs and finishing adjustments
Schedule & Compensation Part-Time:
16-32 hours per week, Saturdays if possible $25-$30+/hour based on experience, demonstrated skill level, and framing proficiency Potential for increased hours and expanded responsibilities based on fit and performance Growth Opportunity This role is designed for someone who wants to deepen their expertise in custom framing while gaining exposure to broader aspects of shop operations.
