Job Description

Maine Fly Company — Yarmouth, Maine Maine Fly Company is hiring a full-time Rodsmith Apprentice (Fly Rod Builder) to join our growing team in Yarmouth, Maine. This is an opportunity to learn a rare craft under the mentorship of one of our master builders at New England's original small-batch fly rod company. No prior rod-building experience is required. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with their hands, takes pride in detail-oriented work, and wants to grow into a long-term craftsmanship role. This position involves focused bench work, repetitive precision tasks, and a high level of consistency and quality control. The right person will genuinely enjoy that process. Our rods are handcrafted in the historic Sparhawk Mill overlooking the Royal River in Yarmouth, Maine. What You'll Do Learn fly rod building through a paid hands-on apprenticeship Assist in the production and finishing of Maine Fly Company rods Work directly alongside our master builder during training Perform detailed bench work and quality control Assist with light rod repairs and general production support Support occasional shop and event needs Apprenticeship Structure Your first 50 rods will serve as your apprenticeship phase. During this time, you'll learn the workflow, tools, techniques, and craftsmanship standards behind every Maine Fly Company rod. Successful completion of the apprenticeship phase leads to advancement into a full Rodsmith role with increased compensation and long-term growth opportunities. What We're Looking For Reliability and strong work ethic Patience and attention to detail Comfort with repetitive hands-on work Ability to stay focused for extended periods Coachable attitude and willingness to learn Pride in craftsmanship and quality Good dexterity with small tools and materials Ability to work on-site daily in Yarmouth, Maine Fly fishing experience is welcomed, but not required. Candidates with backgrounds in woodworking, jewelry making, fly tying, art, sewing, assembly, repair work, manufacturing, production, or other craftsmanship-focused fields are encouraged to apply.
