The SMT Operator will be responsible for the precise setup, operation, and maintenance of surface mount technology equipment used in electronics assembly. This role is essential in ensuring the efficient production of high-quality printed circuit boards (PCBs) by adhering to strict specifications and safety standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of electronics assembly processes, schematic reading, and the use of various hand and power tools. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to advanced manufacturing operations within a dynamic and innovative environment. Duties Set up and calibrate surface mount technology (SMT) machinery according to blueprint specifications and schematics. Operate pick-and-place machines, soldering stations, and other electronic assembly equipment with precision. Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings to ensure accurate component placement. Assemble PCB components using hand tools, soldering techniques, and adherence to IPC 610 standards for electronic assemblies. Perform routine inspections and quality checks on assembled PCBs, identifying defects or discrepancies. Maintain electrical wiring diagrams and troubleshoot electro-mechanical components during production. Use testing instruments such as ohmmeters and multimeters for electrical troubleshooting and verification. Follow safety protocols when handling electrical panels, wiring, and power tools. Assist in building electrical panels and mechanical assemblies as required. Document production activities accurately and report any issues to engineering or supervisory staff for prompt resolution. Skills Strong knowledge of PCB assembly processes, including surface mount technology (SMT) techniques. Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings. Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and electrical wiring interpretation. Skilled in soldering, electrical wiring, and using hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, and wire strippers. Familiarity with IPC 610 standards for electronic component assembly quality. Ability to troubleshoot electro-mechanical components using engineering troubleshooting methods. Knowledge of machining processes related to electrical panel building and mechanical assembly. Competence in using power tools safely within a manufacturing environment. Understanding of electrical schematic reading, schematic interpretation, and following blueprint specifications. Experience working with electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, integrated circuits, and connectors. This role is integral to our manufacturing operations, requiring attention to detail, technical proficiency, and a commitment to quality.
