Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Wiring Harness Builder to join our team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. As a Wiring Harness Builder at Racing Tech, you will be responsible for autonomously assembling, testing, and troubleshooting custom wiring harnesses. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in the motorsport industry, with a strong understanding of automotive electrical systems and expertise in using Mil-Spec, Raychem and autosport connectors.
•This is not production-line work.
Key Responsibilities:
Independently build wiring harnesses with minimal supervision, ensuring they meet industry standards and Racing Tech's high-performance requirements. Perform quality checks and testing to ensure all wiring is up to specification. Build concentric-twist harnesses on layout boards from drawings, schematics, and pin-out tables. Terminate and crimp with calibrated tools; install Deutsch Autosport, MIL-DTL-38999, Deutsch DT/DTM, and AMP Superseal connectors. Jacket with Raychem DR-25 and SCL, install molded boots and transitions, and bond with Raychem epoxy/adhesive. Install solder sleeves, splices, and shield terminations. Label, document, continuity- and insulation-test finished harnesses. Repair and modify existing customer harnesses. Flag drawing issues and suggest build improvements to engineering. Maintain an organized and efficient workspace. Adhere to all safety guidelines and best practices in a workshop environment.
Qualifications:
2+ years building harnesses with Raychem heat-shrink systems (DR-25 or equivalent, molded boots, epoxy). Hands-on crimping experience with mil-spec contacts and tooling (Daniels or equivalent). Experience with
MIL-W-22759
(Tefzel) and M27500 wire. Can read harness drawings, wiring diagrams, and pin-out tables. Knows
IPC/WHMA-A-620
workmanship standards (Class 3 preferred). Fine motor skills, patience, and pride in clean work. Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality work. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure. High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in automotive or electrical engineering is a plus.
Compensation:
Hourly rate based on experience. Work experience within a motorsport performance environment. Customized learning and development program.
