Engineering TechnicianJob Description This Engineering Technician role focuses on assembling, testing, and maintaining caster products in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The position blends mechanical assembly with basic electrical work to support a new product line within New Product Induction and Development. The technician ensures that all caster assemblies meet specifications, function reliably, and comply with internal quality and performance standards while collaborating closely with engineers and other technical staff. Responsibilities Assemble caster units, including wheels, brackets, bearings, and related mechanical components, according to engineering specifications. Perform basic electrical assembly tasks such as wiring, connecting components, and testing electrical features on caster products. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and work instructions to ensure accurate and consistent assembly. Inspect individual parts and finished products for defects, proper fit, and overall functionality, ensuring they meet quality standards. Support design efforts as needed by providing feedback on manufacturability, assembly processes, and product performance. Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues that arise during assembly and testing, and implement effective corrective actions. Conduct functional and performance testing to verify the durability, reliability, and performance of caster units. Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment safely and effectively to complete assembly and testing tasks. Maintain accurate production and test records, documenting any quality concerns, process deviations, or product issues. Report quality or process issues promptly and collaborate with quality and engineering teams to resolve them. Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area. Work collaboratively with team members, supervisors, and quality personnel to meet production goals and support new product ramp-up. Essential Skills Associate's degree in Engineering. Experience working as an engineering technician in electromechanical or mechanical assembly within a manufacturing setting, with a preference for a minimum of 2+ years. Ability to read and understand technical drawings, blueprints, and wiring diagrams. Knowledge of electrical systems and mechanical components related to caster or similar assemblies. Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and inspection equipment in a production environment. Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate assembly and thorough inspection of components and finished products. Effective problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve mechanical and basic electrical issues during assembly and testing. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with motors or control units. Experience with caster or wheel-type assemblies. Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices. Basic troubleshooting skills using electrical testing tools. Interest in supporting new product induction and development activities. Motivation to continuously improve skills, including leveraging learning platforms such as Udemy when available. Work Environment The role is based in a fast-paced manufacturing environment focused on caster and wheel products. The typical work week is 40 hours, with a standard schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The position involves a mix of hands-on work on the production floor and desk-based tasks, with a stronger emphasis on hands-on assembly, testing, and troubleshooting. The Engineering Technician works closely with a small, focused team dedicated to a new product line, including two Product Engineers. The facility uses common manufacturing tools and equipment such as hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and inspection equipment to support electromechanical assembly and testing. The organization emphasizes innovation in mobility solutions and offers a structured environment with defined processes, quality standards, and opportunities for skill development. Team members in this role receive 10 days of paid time off and 6 standard holidays as a consultant, and after six months gain access to Udemy for further professional development. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Joseph, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00- $30.00/hr.
