About Us Founded in 1983, Innovation Marine has spent more than four decades engineering and manufacturing high-performance inboard marine engines. Based in Sarasota, Florida, we have established ourselves as a trusted industry leader serving offshore racing teams, recreational boating enthusiasts, and multiple government agencies—including the U.S. Navy. Our manufacturing capabilities span a wide range of engine platforms, from traditional naturally aspirated carbureted V8s to advanced forced-induction, EFI-controlled systems, as well as high-output diesel engines. Every engine we produce is built with precision, innovation, and a commitment to delivering custom solutions that meet the unique performance demands of each customer. Job Overview We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Engine Builder to join our production team. You will play a key role in assembling high-performance marine engines. Secondary responsibilities may include supporting quality assurance and continuous improvement of assembly processes. Responsibilities Assemble complete marine engines and sub-assemblies using hand tools and specialized equipment Follow detailed work instructions, diagrams, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accurate and consistent builds Perform precise measurement, inspection, and fitting of components (pistons, crankshafts, bearings, heads, fuel systems, etc.) Conduct quality inspections of incoming piece-parts and during critical assembly steps Troubleshoot and resolve assembly issues or malfunctions Perform spreadsheet data entry (Excel) of build/assembly information Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following all safety protocols Collaborate with the team to meet production goals and deadlines Required Skills Hands-on experience building or assembling internal combustion engines Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of engine components and systems Proficiency using basic automotive/marine hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, etc.) Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, assembly instructions, and schematics Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship Good communication skills Ability to work independently or as part of a small team Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs occasionally, and work in a shop environment
Preferred Skills:
Previous experience with high-performance or marine engines Knowledge of torque specifications, clearances, and precision fitting techniques Experience with work instructions Knowledge of inspection tools and techniques (including magnetic particle inspection) Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical troubleshooting ability
Work Environment:
Shop/manufacturing floor setting (not primarily desk-based) Regular use of hands and tools; standing, bending, and moving for extended periods Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds Drug-free workplace — candidates must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening No relocation reimbursement
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical school, ASE certification, or marine engine training strongly preferred.
