Job Title:
Mechanical Assembly Technician Job Description The Mechanical Assembly Technician works in a manufacturing environment assembling machine components from prints and standard operating procedures. This role focuses on building mechanical subassemblies using hand and power tools, collaborating with team members and material handlers, and ensuring components are built accurately and efficiently. Responsibilities Build machine components by accurately following engineering prints and standard operating procedures. Use hand tools and power tools to assemble mechanical components and subassemblies. Work collaboratively within a team when building different subcomponents of larger machines. Coordinate with material handlers to pick and stage required parts and materials for each build. Lift and move components and materials weighing up to 50 pounds as part of the assembly process. Complete individual components within expected timeframes, typically 45 minutes to 1 hour per component. Follow directions and assembly instructions to ensure quality, safety, and consistency in all builds. Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with manufacturing and safety standards. Essential Skills Minimum of 2 years of assembly experience or mechanical aptitude, such as building cars or working in a mechanical trade. Ability to read and interpret prints and follow written and verbal directions. Strong mechanical aptitude with an understanding of basic mechanical assembly principles. Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively. Capability to lift and handle up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a manufacturing environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working from standard operating procedures (SOPs). Prior experience in machine assembly or related mechanical assembly roles. Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with defined build times for components. Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality mechanical assemblies. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a clean manufacturing facility operating on a first shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Employees may stay late during the week and may work approximately 4 hours on occasional Saturdays, with no work on Sundays, and can expect about 5-10 hours of overtime per week. The workspace is clean and equipped with fans, though it is not fully climate controlled. Dress is typical for a manufacturing environment, with practical attire suitable for working with tools and machinery. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Michigan City, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
