Job Description
Position Summary The Custom Automation Machine Builder is responsible for the mechanical assembly, installation, troubleshooting, and testing of custom-designed automation equipment and machinery. This position requires the ability to interpret engineering drawings, assemble complex mechanical systems, install pneumatic and hydraulic components, and work closely with engineering and electrical teams to ensure machines meet company quality standards and customer expectations. Because every machine is unique, this role requires a high level of mechanical aptitude, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail. Responsibilities Mechanical Assembly Assemble custom automation equipment from engineering drawings and bills of material. Install machine frames, guarding, conveyors, tooling, and mechanical components. Install bearings, shafts, linear rails, ball screws, gearboxes, motors, and drive systems. Build precision assemblies requiring close tolerances and alignment. Perform drilling, tapping, layout, fitting, grinding, and light fabrication as required. Install and adjust pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Verify proper alignment, motion, and fit of mechanical assemblies. Machine Debug & Startup Assist with machine startup and mechanical debugging. Diagnose and correct mechanical issues during machine testing. Make engineering-directed modifications and improvements. Adjust sensors, actuators, stops, and tooling for proper machine operation. Work closely with Controls Engineers and Electricians during commissioning.
