Mechanical Assembler (1st Shift) Job Description This role involves assembling mechanical components and panels using hand and power tools in a metal manufacturing environment. You will work from blueprints, support multiple departments, and contribute to a variety of interesting, high-visibility projects. The position requires flexibility, a willingness to learn, and the ability to handle physical tasks throughout the shift. Responsibilities Assemble hatches and panels using hand and power tools such as drills, wrenches, screwdrivers, torque tools, and tape measures. Work from and accurately interpret blueprints to complete mechanical assemblies to specification. Prepare panels for painting by installing insulation and hanging panels on hooks. Package completed assemblies securely and accurately to fulfill customer orders. Cross-train in various departments and provide support where needed to meet production demands. Use mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot basic assembly issues and ensure quality standards. Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment while working with tools and metal components. Maintain a clean and organized work area consistent with a metal manufacturing environment. Essential Skills At least 6 months of mechanical assembly experience. Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Ability to read and accurately use a tape measure. Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with mechanical components. Proficiency using hand tools and power tools, including drills, screwdrivers, wrenches, and torque tools. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. High school diploma or equivalent. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in mechanical assembly environments similar to auto or auto body shops. Comfort working in a metal manufacturing setting. General mechanically inclined background, such as performing basic auto work or oil changes. Willingness to cross-train and learn new tasks across multiple departments. Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a first-shift role in a metal manufacturing facility with conditions similar to an auto body shop, including a somewhat dirty and hands-on environment.
Hours vary slightly by department:
one department operates Monday through Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., with overtime schedules extending Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; another department operates Monday through Thursday from 5:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., with overtime schedules extending Monday through Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The shop is non-union. The dress code requires pants (no sweatpants or athletic wear) and a short-sleeve shirt or longer, along with steel-toed boots for safety. Work is performed using a variety of hand and power tools, and employees are expected to follow all safety guidelines appropriate for a metal manufacturing environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brooklyn Park, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
