Mechanical Assembler Job Description The Mechanical Assembler assembles metal components into finished products in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Working at an individual assembly station, you will use hand and power tools to build the same product repeatedly throughout the shift while maintaining a steady production rate of approximately one assembly every 2.5 minutes. You follow detailed work instructions or blueprints, perform basic quality checks, and handle frequent lifting of assemblies weighing 30-35 lbs. This role suits someone who is comfortable with repetitive work, has strong attention to detail, and can stand and lift consistently throughout the day while meeting safety and quality standards. Responsibilities Assemble metal components into completed products at an individual assembly station in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to build assemblies according to specifications. Follow work instructions, blueprints, and assembly documentation to ensure accurate and consistent builds. Maintain a steady production pace of approximately one assembly every 2.5 minutes while meeting production goals. Perform basic quality inspections and self-checks on assemblies to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications. Measure and verify parts using basic math skills to confirm correct dimensions and component placement. Lift and handle assemblies weighing 30-35 lbs frequently and safely throughout the shift. Stand for long periods while performing repetitive assembly tasks in a takt-time-driven environment. Adhere to workplace safety practices and ergonomic guidelines to minimize risk of injury. Follow direction from supervisors, accept coaching, and adapt to process or work instruction changes as needed. Collaborate with team members while working independently at your station to support overall production flow. Maintain a clean and organized work area within the assembly department. Essential Skills Previous experience in a manufacturing, assembly, or production environment. Demonstrated ability to use hand tools and power tools for mechanical assembly work. Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with metal components and assemblies. Ability to maintain a steady production pace and meet takt-time and production goals while sustaining quality. Comfort with repetitive work and performing the same assembly process throughout the shift. Ability to frequently lift and move assemblies weighing 30-35 lbs. Ability to stand for long periods during the workday. Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality assemblies. Familiarity with basic quality inspections and self-check processes. Basic math skills for measurements and part verification. Understanding of workplace safety practices and ergonomics. Reliability, strong attendance, and a solid work ethic. Ability to take direction, accept coaching, and adapt to process changes. Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently at a station. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with mechanical assembly in a fast-paced, takt-time-driven production environment. Experience reading and following blueprints or detailed work instructions. Experience working on an assembly line or in a structured production setting. Work Environment This role is based in a large sheet metal manufacturing facility with a dedicated assembly area and a small machine shop within the building. The environment is fairly clean for an industrial setting, though not to medical or laboratory standards. The position follows a 1st shift schedule, Monday through Thursday from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Work is performed at an individual assembly station using hand and power tools, with frequent lifting of 30-35 lbs and standing for extended periods. The pace is fast and takt-time-driven, with clear safety and ergonomic practices in place to support consistent, repetitive assembly work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minneapolis, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
