Job Title:
Metal Finisher Job Description This role prepares and finishes metal parts using electroplating, anodizing, and conversion coating processes while maintaining strict quality and process controls. The position focuses on producing consistent, high-quality finishes through careful preparation, chemical bath management, inspection, and documentation in a clean, climate-controlled environment. Responsibilities Prepare metal parts for finishing by cleaning, degreasing, etching, masking, and properly racking or fixturing components. Operate finishing processes such as electroplating, anodizing (including Types I, II, and III), and conversion coatings in accordance with process sheets, specifications, and bath control requirements. Mix, maintain, and monitor chemical baths, including controlling temperature, pH, and chemical concentration, and add chemicals according to established procedures. Perform post-finishing operations such as rinsing, passivation, drying, and packaging to ensure parts meet required finish and cleanliness standards. Inspect finished parts using gauges, micrometers, calipers, visual standards, and thickness measurement tools to verify compliance with specifications. Maintain accurate production records, bath-chemical logs, and quality documentation, and complete all required paperwork in a timely and precise manner. Identify and report nonconforming parts, document issues, and support corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Assist in troubleshooting finish defects such as adhesion issues, discoloration, pitting, and roughness, and implement corrective actions under supervision. Use finishing tools such as buffers, polishers, tumblers, and grinders to achieve required surface finishes when needed. Follow all safety, environmental, and quality procedures related to chemical handling, equipment operation, and metal finishing processes. Essential Skills Minimum 3 years of experience in anodizing Types I, II, and III, electroplating, or metal finishing. At least 3 years of hands-on experience specifically in Type III anodizing. NADCAP-related experience in metal finishing or anodizing processes. Familiarity with plating chemistries, bath control, and process documentation for electroplating and anodizing operations. Experience using finishing tools such as buffers, polishers, tumblers, and grinders. Proficiency with basic measuring instruments including gauges, micrometers, and calipers. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications for finished parts. Knowledge of relevant quality standards and their application in a metal finishing environment. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in completing logs, records, and quality paperwork. Ability to follow written process sheets, work instructions, and safety procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a NADCAP-compliant metal finishing or aerospace-related environment. Background in managing multiple chemical baths and documenting adjustments and results. Familiarity with thickness measurement tools and visual inspection standards. Exposure to passivation processes and post-finishing operations such as drying and packaging. Comfort working with chemical handling procedures and environmental controls. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Clearwater, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
