Job Description

Job Title:
Finisher - 1st Shift Job Description This 1st shift Finisher role prepares metal products to precise customer specifications by performing grinding, sanding, deburring, and polishing tasks. You use hand grinders, power tools, and other finishing equipment to remove excess metal, smooth surfaces, and ensure high-quality results. You support machine operators during downtime, complete inspections and basic quality checks, and help maintain a clean, safe production area while handling materials up to 55 lbs. Responsibilities Prepare products to meet customer specifications by performing finishing operations such as grinding, sanding, deburring, and polishing. Use hand grinders to sand and grind down excess metal and achieve smooth, consistent surfaces. Operate and handle various hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently for metal finishing tasks. Assist machine operators during downtime by supporting setup, material handling, and basic machine-side tasks. Inspect finished products and perform quality assurance checks to ensure they meet required standards and specifications. Identify and correct minor defects such as burrs, rough edges, or uneven surfaces using appropriate finishing techniques. Perform general cleaning duties in the work area to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient production environment. Lift, move, and position materials and parts weighing up to 55 lbs as part of daily production activities. Read and interpret basic blueprints or work instructions to understand finishing requirements and tolerances. Use hammers and other tools to straighten parts and ensure proper shape and alignment. Work collaboratively with production, assembly, and machine operation teams to meet production goals and deadlines. Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of tools and equipment. Essential Skills Prior experience using grinders and hand tools, including comfort with using a hammer to straighten parts. At least 3 months of prior production or manufacturing experience preferred, including exposure to general labor, general production, or finishing tasks. Ability to perform metal finishing operations such as grinding, sanding, deburring, polishing, and metal finishing on various parts. Experience working with power tools and hand tools in a manufacturing, construction, or production environment. Capability to lift and handle materials up to 55 lbs safely and repeatedly. Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working with mechanical assembly or fabrication processes. Attention to detail to perform inspections and basic quality assurance checks on finished products. Ability to follow work instructions, understand basic blueprints, and adhere to quality and safety standards. Willingness to work in a production environment that can be warm and requires consistent use of personal protective equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with machine operation or assisting machine operators in a manufacturing setting. Familiarity with metal finishing processes, including grinding, sanding, deburring, polishing, and concrete or metal surface finishing. Exposure to mechanical assembly, kitting, and fabrication tasks. Ability to use inspection tools and perform visual inspections to verify product quality. Comfort working with a variety of hand tools, power tools, and grinders in a fast-paced environment. Willingness to learn new processes and potentially move into different departments as skills grow. Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing and production facility on 1st shift, working with metal finishing, grinding, sanding, and general production equipment. The environment can be warm in the summer and involves regular use of hand tools, power tools, grinders, and other finishing equipment. Safety is a priority, and you must wear metatarsal boots and safety glasses at all times while on the production floor. The dress code is casual but requires no shorts or cut-off sleeves to maintain safety standards. You work around machinery, metal parts, and fabrication processes, performing physical tasks such as lifting up to 55 lbs and standing for extended periods while maintaining a clean and organized work area. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Le Sueur, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.25/hr.
