Job Title:
Research Technician Job Description The Research Technician will be responsible for supporting various agricultural operations, including the transportation and management of equipment, execution of plot planting, and maintenance of field data. The role involves a combination of administrative tasks and fieldwork to ensure the efficient functioning of agricultural research plots. Responsibilities Load, transport, and unload equipment safely. Execute timely and accurate plot planting. Label testing blocks according to protocol. Collect and document field data, including emergence, stand counts, flowering, height, and maturity. Perform weed control through spraying and manual methods as needed. Maintain plots through tillage, weeding, and general upkeep. Install and maintain plot signage. Coordinate seed organization and counting; order supplies as needed. Assist with filling planter boxes and preparing equipment. Support calibration of field equipment, including planters, sprayers, combines, and scales. Work with the Research Manager to develop field location maps. Learn and utilize current research software and data systems. Prepare and ship test seed. Attend university agronomic meetings as available. Load, transport, and unload harvest equipment. Operate plot combines safely and efficiently. Complete timely harvest of research plots. Perform basic maintenance on planters, sprayers, combines, and tractors. Identify and implement process improvements. Perform equipment maintenance and repairs. Support testing and implementation of new technologies. Essential Skills Proficiency in data entry and administrative support. Experience operating farm equipment such as tractors and combines. Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop Production, or related field (or equivalent experience). Work Environment The work environment involves a combination of office and field settings. The role requires the use of agricultural equipment and technology, and attendance at university agronomic meetings. The office clerk must be prepared to handle both administrative and physical tasks to support agricultural research operations.
