Land Based Healing & Learning Specialist Albuquerque, NM Job Details Full-time $50,000 - $75,000 a year 15 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Parental leave Vision insurance Professional development assistance Qualifications Landscape maintenance Outdoor work Food preparation Farming Sustainable agriculture Teaching Full Job Description Overview We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable individual to care for our gardens, Hoop House, and outdoor learning spaces, ensuring the health and sustainability of our Indigenous food systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in traditional ecological knowledge, indigenous food cultivation practices, and land stewardship. This role involves tending to plants, managing seasonal plant cycles, maintaining soil health, and engaging with children, educators, community members to support food sovereignty initiatives. This position will work closely with NACA interns ages 16-21. Duties Cultivate and maintain gardens, Hoop House and outdoor learning spaces using Indigenous and sustainable growing practices. Plan and implement seasonal planting, harvesting, and seed-saving practices in alignment with Indigenous agricultural knowledge. Monitor soil health, water systems, pest management, and plant vitality using natural and culturally significant methods. Collaborate with educators, students and community members to provide learning opportunities around traditional food systems. Maintain records of plantings, yields, and garden activities to support program growth and sustainability. Assist in food preparation, preservation, and distribution efforts in alignment with community needs. Uphold principles of respect, reciprocity, and relational accountability in all aspects of work. Participate in professional development opportunities related to Indigenous science and culturally responsive education. Demonstrate NACA Core Values and uphold professional ethics as outlined by the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED). Support school-wide initiatives, including student supervision during non-classroom hours and participation in community events. Requirements
- Experience or interest in Indigenous traditional food and medicine systems, gardening, and/ or farming. Hydroponics knowledge is preferred.
- Knowledge of traditional ecological knowledge and sustainable land practices.
- Familiarity with regional Indigenous plants, foods, and agricultural techniques.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift/ move gardening materials as needed.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities is preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff and families.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic educational setting.
- Teaching license (highly preferred)
Pay:
