Job Description

Job Summary:
The Pattern Maker and Sewing Technician is responsible for producing precision patterns, sewing fabric and vinyl components, digitizing patterns, monogramming, creation of sewing instructions, and performing light upholstery work to support both prototype and production-ready furniture designs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pattern making and industrial sewing, with a focus on craftsmanship, functionality, and marine durability with a collaborative mindset to turn design concepts into durable, functional marine seating solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Patterning
  • Develop accurate and repeatable patterns for cushions, seat covers, and other upholstered marine furniture components based on engineering specifications and prototype designs. Digitizing Work
  • Digitize hand-drafted patterns or create digital patterns using appropriate software for archiving and production scaling. Sewing
  • Use industrial sewing machines to stitch marine-grade fabrics, vinyl, and trim materials, ensuring high-quality seams and finishes. Upholstery
  • Perform basic to intermediate upholstery tasks including foam cutting, fabric fitting, and assembly of upholstered parts for prototype and production furniture. Monogramming
  • Execute embroidery or heat-press monogramming on designated projects, following branding and quality standards. Instruction Creation
  • Write clear and accurate sewing and assembly instructions to support production staff and ensure consistency. Collaboration
  • Work closely with engineers, designers, and production staff to test designs, provide feedback, and ensure patterns and sewn components align with design intent and production requirements. Documentation
  • Maintain organized records of pattern templates, sewing instructions, and material usage for both prototyping and future production runs. Quality Assurance
  • Inspect materials and finished components for fit, finish, and durability, ensuring they meet both aesthetics and functional requirements.
Qualifications & Skills:
2+ years of experience in pattern making, industrial sewing, or upholstery-preferably in marine, automotive, or custom furniture industries. Proficient with industrial sewing machines and common upholstery tools. Strong understanding of fabric behavior, stitch types, and seam construction. Experience with pattern digitizing tools or software is a plus. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and technical specifications. Familiarity with monogramming or embroidery equipment and software is a bonus. Excellent attention to detail, craftsmanship, and organizational skills. Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with marine-grade materials such as UV-resistant vinyl and performance fabrics. Familiarity with CAD or digital pattering software.
