Job Description

Shop Assistant (Part-Time) Martin Metal Works, Inc. is seeking a dependable and motivated Shop Assistant to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys a variety of responsibilities and takes pride in staying organized, maintaining quality standards, and helping ensure day-to-day operations run smoothly. This is a part-time position working Monday-Wednesday. From time to time, workdays may be adjusted (such as Wednesday to Thursday) based on operational needs. Any schedule changes will be communicated in advance. The successful candidate will assist with quality control, shop support duties, and occasional local shop errands.
Responsibilities include:
Performing quality control inspections on manufactured parts to ensure they meet specifications and company standards. Reading and interpreting printed CAD drawings. Using measuring tools, including tape measures, calipers, and scales. Assisting with organization and general upkeep of the shop. Completing local shop errands, including deliveries, pick-ups, and material runs as needed. Loading and unloading materials and products. Supporting shop personnel with miscellaneous tasks and projects. Maintaining accurate records and documentation when required.
Qualifications:
Ability to read and understand technical drawings and measurements. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Comfortable working with fractions, decimals, and basic mathematics. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods. Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently. Previous manufacturing or metal fabrication experience is preferred but not required. Selected applicants will be asked to complete a skills assessment that includes reading a tape measure, working with fractions and decimals, and interpreting basic drawings. Shop errands are generally local and may include deliveries, vendor pick-ups, and transporting materials using company vehicle. While most days are scheduled Monday through Wednesday, occasional schedule adjustments may be discussed in advance based on business needs.
