Performs work under supervision. Reads blueprint and job order for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, and number of parts to be ground, and tooling instructions, such as grinding, speeds, feed rates, holding fixtures, and grinding wheels to be used. Mounts the grinding wheel and regulating wheel on the spindles with wrenches. Dresses wheels to specifications, using dressing device. Moves controls to set specified grinding speeds, feed rates, and spacing between wheel faces. Positions and secures work rest at the specified height, using wrenches. Lifts and positions workpieces manually or with a hoist, and secures them between the wheels and on the work rest. Starts machine and observes the operation. Verifies dimensions of groundwork piece for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and preset gauges. May set up an automatic work feeding device. Position reports to Grinding Supervisor and does not have direct reports. Must be 18 years of age or older High School Diploma/GED To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic computer skills and departmental applications: SPC & Shop Floor System. Experience with custom or production work or with particular material, product, or precision level, or with a machine of particular size, type, or trade name. Working experience in a manufacturing environment and procedures Ability to stand for long periods of time Good eye/hand coordination, use of hands, hand movement and manual dexterity, use of hands to fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch, listen and speak. Lift up to 40 pounds Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
