Full Job Description Position Summary:
The Flat Bed Die Cutter Assistant Operator supports the lead operator in the safe and efficient setup, operation, and maintenance of corrugated flatbed die cutting equipment. This position plays a key role in maintaining production flow, assisting with tooling setup, ensuring product quality, and promoting a safe work environment. The Assistant Operator is expected to develop technical skills with the goal of becoming a fully qualified machine operator.
Major Responsibilities:
- Support the setup and operation of the corrugated flatbed die cutter under the direction of the lead operator.
- Assist in mounting/demounting die boards, stripping jigs, ejection rubbers, and other tooling.
- Prepare and verify materials and tooling required for each job run, including dies, labels, and support materials.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols.
- Monitor product flow and assist with adjustments to ensure accurate scoring, cutting, and product quality.
- Learn to identify and resolve basic issues related to channel scoring, nicking, and material handling.
- Follow company Tool Handling Policy and standard operating procedures.
- Communicate effectively with the operator and team members to support smooth shift transitions and problem-solving.
- Assist in quality checks and inspection of finished goods.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Set up and organize job materials and tools before each run.
- Assist with machine setups, including die placement, stripping, and make-ready processes.
- Monitor material feed and finished product stacking to ensure consistency and prevent jams.
- Record basic production data and assist in preparing daily production and downtime reports.
- Perform daily cleaning tasks to keep machine and surrounding areas in safe, presentable condition.
- Follow verbal and written instructions from the operator and supervisor.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in learning technical machine operations.
- Ability to read a tape measure, interpret simple blueprints or work orders.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify product defects or inconsistencies.
- Willingness to learn about corrugated substrates, litho-laminated labels, and high hold-out materials.
- Effective team player with good communication and listening skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods (up to 12-hour shifts).
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and operate equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Tolerance to noise, dust, and adhesives commonly found in corrugated facilities.
