Job Description
Summary Build and repair all types, sizes, and shapes of jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Manufacture and sharpen cutting tools used in the manufacturing process. Essential Functions Read and interpret blueprints or work from verbal or written instructions or from items to be fitted or copied. Plan set up and operation of all types of machine shop tools, including tool and cutter grinding equipment, considering types of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, grinding wheels, coolants, lubricants, and machine tool feeds and speeds. Set up and operate conventional and computer controlled machine tools such as lathes, mills, grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions. Determine specifications for inspection of work, using precision measuring and gaging tools (calipers, pins, micrometers, etc.) performing required inspection before, during, and after machining. Perform hand operations to fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools. Sets up, runs off, and tests tools to produce a product to specifications, tracing difficulties to their source and correcting same. Select metals to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on proprieties such as hardness and heat tolerance. Create and/or modify cutting tooling and fixtures for new product development. Heat treats and weld parts as required. Work with Manufacturing Engineer in trouble shooting quality problems in production. Maintain neat and orderly work area utilizing 5 S, etc. Maintain ISO documents and drawings. Establish and maintain positive working relationships Perform other responsibilities as needed and as assigned.
