Job Description

Job Title:
Hazardous Waste Technician / Laborer Job Description This role supports a hazardous waste transfer facility by safely handling, sorting, and preparing industrial waste materials for shipment to processing locations. You will work with a variety of hazardous waste streams, operate forklifts and other equipment, and ensure all containers are properly consolidated, labeled, and secured for transport. The position is ideal for reliable individuals seeking long-term, hands-on work with opportunities to gain certifications and grow in the environmental services field. Responsibilities Handle and process various hazardous waste streams, including paints, solvents, chemicals, and other industrial materials, in accordance with safety and regulatory requirements. Receive incoming hazardous waste containers from trucks and trailers, offload them safely, and perform check-in procedures. Sort and consolidate hazardous waste into appropriate drums, ensuring each material type is placed in the correct container. Palletize drums and containers, then strap and shrink wrap them to secure loads for transportation ("strap and wrap"). Load trucks with up to 60 drums per load, verify counts, and perform quality checks to ensure correct labeling and documentation. Operate forklifts, particularly in a loading dock environment, to move drums, pallets, and other materials safely and efficiently. Lift and move materials weighing from 5 to 100 pounds, using proper lifting techniques and equipment as needed. Support daily operations in a 10-day hazardous waste holding facility, ensuring materials are staged correctly for shipment to processing locations. Work with hazardous waste from large retail and industrial customers, maintaining a high standard of safety and accuracy. Follow all site safety procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment and participating in safety trainings. Complete

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area despite working in a dirty industrial environment. Work outdoors year-round and adapt to varying weather conditions while performing job duties. Demonstrate reliability by consistently reporting on time for assigned shifts and being flexible to work additional hours as needed. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet daily operational goals and support continuous improvement in safety and efficiency. Essential Skills Experience operating forklifts, preferably in a loading dock environment. Ability to lift and move materials ranging from 5 to 100 pounds, by hand or with a forklift. Ability to work outdoors all year round in a dirty industrial environment. Reliability and strong work ethic, with a focus on long-term employment. Comfort working with hazardous materials and chemical waste under strict safety procedures. Willingness to complete a 40-hour hazardous waste (HAZWOPER) certification, with training provided during the first 1-2 weeks if not already certified. Ability to pass a

certification (CFR 1910.20) is preferred but not required; the company provides training and certification during initial onboarding. Previous experience in hazardous waste handling, hazmat, or chemical inventory environments. Experience in transportation or service center operations, particularly involving loading docks. Prior exposure to industrial or environmental services work environments. Comfort working with customers in retail and industrial sectors through handling their waste streams. Strong commitment to safety and willingness to wear and maintain all required personal protective equipment. Interest in obtaining additional trainings and certifications related to hazardous materials and environmental services. Why Work Here? You join a stable operation that offers growth opportunities, comprehensive benefits, and consistent year-round work without seasonal layoffs. The organization invests in your development by providing robust training and industry-recognized certifications, including HAZWOPER and safety-related credentials. You gain hands-on experience in environmental services while building a long-term career path in a field that supports public safety and environmental protection. Work Environment The role is based at a hazardous waste transfer facility that operates as a 10-day holding ground for materials before they move to processing locations. The environment is industrial and can be dirty, but the waste handled is primarily industrial rather than biological or household garbage. You will work both indoors and outdoors, year-round, and must be comfortable in varying weather conditions. The primary shift is a first shift from approximately 4:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the possibility of a split shift starting around 6:30 a.m. once operations expand and as you get up to speed. Flexibility to work additional hours as needed is important. You will regularly operate forklifts, especially on loading docks, and handle drums and pallets throughout the day. Required safety gear includes steel-toe boots, safety vest, safety glasses, and a hard hat, all of which are provided by the employer except for boots if not specified otherwise. You must complete a
