Location:
Marietta, GA Position Summary The Lead Asbestos Technician is responsible for overseeing field crews during asbestos abatement projects, including removal, encapsulation, and enclosure of asbestos-containing materials. This role ensures that work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with OSHA, EPA, Georgia EPD regulations, and company standards. The Lead Technician serves as the on-site Competent Person, provides hands-on support while directing technicians, manages job site documentation, and serves as the primary point of contact between the field crew and the Project Manager.
Key Responsibilities Site Leadership:
Lead daily on-site activities for asbestos abatement projects, serving as the Competent Person on site.
Crew Management:
Direct and support technicians in containment setup, wet removal, encapsulation, enclosure, HEPA vacuuming, and decontamination procedures.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure all work follows
OSHA, EPA
NESHAP, Georgia EPD regulations, PPE and respiratory protection requirements, and company procedures.
Containment Operations:
Set up and monitor negative-pressure enclosures, decontamination units, and air filtration equipment.
Documentation:
Maintain job site documentation, including photos, notes, daily logs, sign-in sheets, and pressure-differential and monitoring records.
Waste Handling:
Oversee proper handling, wetting, bagging, labeling, and load-out of asbestos-containing waste.
Communication:
Communicate job progress and issues to the Project Manager in a timely manner.
Client Relations:
Serve as the professional point of contact for customers on the job site, addressing questions and providing updates.
Inspection & Clearance:
Conduct final cleaning and visual inspections, and coordinate with independent air monitors for clearance sampling.
Training & Mentorship:
Train and mentor technicians on proper abatement techniques, safety protocols, and customer service.
Asset Management:
Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment, ensuring they are organized and in good working order.
Qualifications Experience:
2+ years of experience in asbestos abatement, mitigation, restoration, or construction. Prior leadership experience in the field is preferred.
Accreditations:
Current
EPA/AHERA
Asbestos Worker accreditation is required. Contractor/Supervisor (Competent Person) accreditation is required or must be obtained within a set timeframe.
Technical Knowledge:
Working knowledge of
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1101, EPA
NESHAP, and Georgia EPD asbestos regulations.
Safety & Medical Compliance:
Medical clearance and respirator fit test are required or must be obtained. Must be able to remain clean-shaven for proper respirator seal.
Physical Demands:
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical labor in various environmental conditions, including work inside containments in full PPE.
Core Skills:
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills. Possess the ability to coach and train others while holding them accountable to company standards.
License:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required.
Work Environment Travel:
Field-based role with frequent travel to assigned job sites.
Availability:
Requires evening, weekend, and on-call availability for emergency response scenarios.
Site Conditions:
Work is performed inside containments wearing full PPE, including respirators, often in non-climate-controlled buildings.
Hazards:
Exposure to asbestos and other environmental hazards occurs regularly, with all required safety PPE strictly provided by the company. Join Us!
