Job Summary We are looking for an Injection Mold Tooling & Fixture Maintenance Technician to support the cleaning, maintenance, repair, inspection, and troubleshooting of steel injection molds, tooling, and production fixtures. This position plays an important role in keeping both our molding operations and assembly operations running smoothly. In addition to working on injection molds, this person will help build, clean, maintain, adjust, repair, and troubleshoot fixtures used by our assembly team. These may include assembly fixtures, holding fixtures, checking fixtures, production aids, and other tooling used to improve consistency, quality, and efficiency. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on mechanical ability, experience working with steel tooling or industrial equipment, and the ability to diagnose problems with molds, fixtures, and related components. This role requires someone who can safely handle heavy tooling, use cranes and hoists, work with shop equipment, and take ownership of keeping molds and fixtures in proper working condition. Experience with injection mold maintenance is preferred, but candidates with a background in toolroom work, machining, mechanical repair, fixture building, industrial maintenance, or hands-on fabrication may also be a strong fit. Knowledge of Bridgeport/manual mill operation, surface grinders, bead blasting, polishing, deburring, and precision measuring tools is a plus. Key Responsibilities Clean, inspect, maintain, and repair steel injection molds and related tooling. Disassemble and reassemble molds for cleaning, preventative maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting. Inspect mold components such as cavities, cores, ejector pins, slides, lifters, vents, gates, runners, inserts, cooling lines, and parting lines. Identify and troubleshoot mold issues that may affect part quality, production efficiency, cycle time, mold function, or part release. Perform preventative maintenance on molds according to schedule. Clean vents, remove buildup, inspect wear areas, lubricate moving components, and prepare molds for production. Assist with diagnosing common molding-related issues such as flashing, sticking parts, blocked vents, poor part release, damaged components, buildup, or alignment concerns. Safely move, lift, and handle heavy steel molds using cranes, hoists, and proper rigging methods. Support mold changeovers, mold setup, and tooling preparation as needed. Build, clean, maintain, adjust, and repair production fixtures used by the assembly team. Troubleshoot fixture issues that affect assembly quality, fit, repeatability, or production flow. Assist with the fabrication, modification, and improvement of fixtures, jigs, checking fixtures, holding fixtures, and other production aids. Use hand tools, grinders, surface grinders, bead blasting equipment, polishing tools, deburring tools, and other shop equipment. Use basic measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, gauges, and other inspection tools as needed. Work with production, assembly, engineering, and quality teams to identify tooling or fixture improvements. Maintain accurate records of mold maintenance, fixture repairs, issues found, corrective actions, and work completed. Keep the toolroom, mold maintenance area, and fixture work areas clean, organized, and safe. Follow all company safety procedures, including proper lifting, rigging, PPE, machine safety, and lockout/tagout practices. Required Qualifications Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience working with tools, machinery, equipment, or mechanical assemblies. Ability to safely work around heavy steel molds, cranes, hoists, and industrial equipment. Experience using common hand tools, power tools, grinders, polishing tools, and general shop equipment. Ability to inspect, clean, repair, and troubleshoot mechanical components. Ability to build, adjust, repair, or maintain fixtures, jigs, or production aids. Ability to read and follow basic drawings, work instructions, maintenance records, and repair notes. Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to communicate issues clearly with production, assembly, engineering, and maintenance teams. Ability to work independently while following established procedures. Dependable attendance and willingness to support production needs. Commitment to working safely and keeping work areas organized. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience maintaining, repairing, or troubleshooting plastic injection molds. Toolroom, mold maintenance, mold making, machining, fixture building, mechanical repair, or industrial maintenance experience. Working knowledge of a Bridgeport/manual mill. Experience with surface grinders, bead blasting, polishing, deburring, and fitting steel components. Basic understanding of injection molding processes and common mold-related defects. Experience with mold vents, gates, ejector systems, slides, lifters, inserts, cooling lines, and parting line maintenance. Experience designing, modifying, or improving assembly fixtures, jigs, holding fixtures, checking fixtures, or production aids. Ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, height gauges, and pin gauges. Welding, TIG welding, manual machining, or fabrication experience is a plus. Experience working in a manufacturing, toolroom, machining, plastics, or production environment. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to [insert weight, commonly 50 lbs] as needed. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, grip, and work with tools for extended periods. Ability to work around heavy tooling, steel molds, cranes, hoists, and production machinery.
