Job Description

Description Summary The Melt and Heat Treat Lab Tech is responsible for operating equipment and machinery to measure the quality of aluminum and the quality of casted wheels Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform routine technical tasks, including operating and maintaining equipment, as well as conducting analysis and experimental procedures.
  • Perform laboratory tests in order to produce reliable and precise data to support Dicastal production processes.
  • Perform routine tasks accurately and follow strict methodologies to carry out analyses.
  • Ability to operate bandsaw/lathe/vertical mill to produce tensile and hardness specimens from in-process aluminum wheels.
  • Ability to operate lathe to produce chemical analysis specimens for Emission Spectroscopy evaluation.
  • Ability to operate/maintain the following laboratory equipment/processes: OES, Tensile Tester, Brinell Hardness Tester, Digital Micro/Macro Image Analyzers, Stereo Microscope, Metallograph.
  • Record and interpret results of testing and create presentation materials when required.
  • Compile and issue test reports including analysis documentation.
  • Use of computer programs to perform mathematical calculations for the preparation of graphs as needed.
  • Document information by maintaining laboratory logbooks and equipment record books.
  • Resolve problems by examining and evaluating data; select corrective steps.
  • Ability to train/monitor production personnel in operation of basic test equipment
  • Follow and ensure strict safety procedures are followed which include safety checks.
  • Complete all required paperwork neatly and in a timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned or designated Skills and Experience
  • Experience in Test/Evaluation Laboratory environment (Preferred, not required)
  • Solid working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and coordinate various activities simultaneously.
  • Exceptional writing and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in a Metallurgical Laboratory environment (Preferred, not required) Organizational Culture
  • Work safely and follow rules and guidelines for safe work
  • Reporting to work on time and with a positive attitude
  • Responsible for staying focused on tasks at hand

  • Must be able to work in a hot environment
  • Must be able to lift and move aluminum wheels of varying weight
  • Must be able to lift 50 - 65 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for up to 12 hours per day
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment when required
