GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Maintenance Specialist IV will perform highly complex (senior-level) construction, restoration, renovation, and maintenance work in the locksmith trade. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Employees at this level may:
Schedule building repair, renovation, or restoration projects.
Coordinate workshop operations to fabricate specialized items needed for project work or to refinish or renovate furniture, doors, and paneling.
Perform repairs and renovations to modernize a building or adapt it to new uses while retaining original appearance.
Perform welding, brazing, or soldering operations to reconstruct or fabricate metal work.
Examine structures and inspect finished projects to ensure work meets building regulations.
Design, assemble, install, repair, and maintain building l
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Performs lock repair, including repining and rekeying, cuts keys.
Repairs door hardware, hinges, and closers on all types of doors.
Repairs and installs panic hardware on all types of doors.
Repairs and installs automatic openers on ADA-compliant doors.
Provides timely responses to requests and complies with the Uniform Building Code, Texas
Accessibility Act.
Calculates material and labor costs and orders parts and supplies to complete work orders.
Requisitions supplies and equipment and maintains maintenance records.
Reads and interprets plans and blueprints.
Operates a State motor vehicle to perform some essential functions of the position.
Acts as lead worker on construction, maintenance, or repair projects; test repairs.
Trains others.
May perform carpentry work such as the installation, alteration, repair, and maintenance of
buildings, doors, windows, wood fixtures, and furniture.
May supervise others.
Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.
Four (4) years of experience in building maintenance and repair
One (1) year of supervisory or lead worker experience.
Valid State of Texas Class C Drivers License
Education and experience may be substituted for one another.
Ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure of the State of Texas.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Vocational or technical training certification in carpentry and locksmith trades
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Extensive knowledge of the locksmith trade.
Extensive knowledge of preventative maintenance and repair work.
Considerable knowledge of repair, maintenance or fabrication of parts and equipment.
Considerable knowledge of the tools and equipment of building trades.
Knowledge of the Uniform Building Code and Texas Accessibility Act.
Skill in repairing locks and door hardware.
Skill in performing carpentry work such as the installation, alteration, repair, and maintenance of
buildings, doors, windows, wood fixtures, and furniture.
Skill in the use of tools and equipment.
Skill in handling multiple tasks.
Ability to apply proper methods, techniques and procedures in the maintenance and repair of
buildings and related equipment; and to perform maintenance.
Ability to estimate materials.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Ability to lead and/or supervise the work of others.
Ability to follow instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
WORK SCHEDULE
In-Office:
8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday.
Position requires participation in on-call response rotation.
Occasional travel out of Travis County will be required.
Must be able to work flexible hours during a Legislative Session or as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR WORKING CONDITIONS
This classification functions indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. This position requires the ability to stoop, bend, lift, and stand for prolonged periods of time and must be able to move up to 50 lbs. and occasionally, 100 lbs. of products and materials. The position will have exposure to dust, environmental allergens, pathogens, and other microorganisms consistent with business activities and human contact. The position will have exposure working with custodial and/or laundry cleaning chemicals, hazardous chemicals, chemical fumes, and biohazards. Use of proper PPE will be used, when needed.
