SYNOPSIS
The Machinist provides expertise in both manual and CNC machining. This role supports training, prototyping, fabrication, and project-driven work requiring precision, adaptability, and a commitment to excellence. In addition to machining tasks, all team members are expected to perform other duties as assigned to support Project Support operations. A strong focus on safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement is essential. The Machinist must demonstrate a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment for oneself and others.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Machining & Setup Set up and operate manual mills, lathes, and grinders to fabricate and repair parts. Set up and operate CNC mills and/or lathes; load programs, set offsets, verify first-article quality, and produce parts to specification. Select proper tooling, work-holding, and machining parameters to meet tolerances and deadlines. Programming & Process Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and GD&T. Edit or adjust G-code at the machine control (e.g., FANUC, Haas). Assist with process improvements and suggest enhancements for quality, safety, and efficiency. Quality & Metrology Conduct in-process and final inspection using micrometers, calipers, indicators, and other precision tools. Document inspection results to maintain traceability and compliance. Safety & Maintenance Follow AIDT's safety policies, procedures, and protocols; safety must be a priority at all times; Perform routine machine checks, basic maintenance, and participate in 5S/lean activities to ensure a safe and orderly workspace. Additional Project Support Duties Assist with fabrication, assembly, equipment setup, demonstrations, or logistical support. Participate in cross-functional tasks or special assignments supporting the Project Support division. Work collaboratively with technicians, trainers, engineers, and project managers.
Special Projects:
Accept and manage the development and implementation of special projects and other work-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Work Habits:
Comply with all policies and procedures as set out in the AIDT Policy Manual. Must be able to travel as needed. Plan daily/weekly work schedule. Maintain housekeeping to organizational standards. Interact professionally with co-workers, general public, and others as required. Comply with AIDT policy regarding attendance. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency with manual and CNC machining. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T. Experience with G-code editing and CNC controls (FANUC, Haas, etc.). Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Familiarity with measurement tools and inspection methods. Demonstrated commitment to Safety and high-quality workmanship.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, etc.). Machining experience with a variety of materials, including aluminum, stainless steels, and plastics. Fabrication, welding, or fixture-building experience. Prior experience in a training, R D, prototyping, or job shop environment.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent 10+ years of relevant machinist experience (manual and CNC) OR 2-year certificate or degree in Machine Tool Technology, Precision Machining, Advanced Manufacturing, or a related program from an accredited community college. A maintenance assessment is required to be eligible for employment.
Physial Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move up to ~50 lbs safely. Ability to work with precision hand tools and inspection equipment. Comfortable working in an active machine shop environment.
Salary and General:
Initial placement will be based on experience and education applicable to the T3-L salary schedule, within a range of $60,226 - $78,909. Paid monthly. Excellent benefits package included.
Criminal Background Check:
The applicant chosen for employment will be required to sign a Criminal Background Check consent form and to submit a nonrefundable $29.67 payment for the cost of the criminal background check. (
Note:
$29.67 fee is based on possession of an Alabama Driver's License. The fee for the background check may be more or less if the driver's license is not an Alabama license.)
