Job Summary We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our advanced aerospace additive manufacturing team. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in CNC programming and machining, with the ability to operate CNC lathes, milling machines, and multi-axis equipment to support the post-processing and finishing of 3D-printed metal components. This role requires exceptional precision, strong process discipline, and a commitment to producing aerospace-grade parts that meet rigorous specifications and industry standards. Key Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC lathes and milling machines to finish and refine 3D-printed metal components. Interpret complex aerospace blueprints, models, and technical drawings to determine machining requirements. Develop, program, and optimize CNC machining processes for precision, efficiency, and throughput. Define tooling strategies, cutting parameters, and toolpaths for complex geometries and difficult-to-machine materials. Utilize CAD/CAM software to program CNC machines and optimize toolpaths for additive manufacturing post-processing. Conduct inspections of machined and printed parts using precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and CMMs. Apply GD&T principles to ensure dimensional accuracy and compliance with aerospace tolerances. Perform secondary processes, including surface finishing and electrical discharge machining (EDM), when required. Lead root cause analysis for machining defects such as chatter, tool wear, thermal distortion, and tolerance drift. Create and maintain machining process documentation, setup instructions, and control plans. Maintain and troubleshoot tooling, fixtures, and machines to ensure reliable performance. Partner with engineers, manufacturing, and quality teams to integrate subtractive machining into the full production workflow and ensure process stability. Contribute to process improvements through lean manufacturing practices and continuous improvement initiatives. Ensure strict adherence to safety and aerospace quality standards throughout all operations.
Core Specialty Areas Tooling & Workholding Systems:
Tool presetting (standard, heat shrink, Regofix), tool life management, fixturing.
Cutting & Preprocessing:
CNC bandsaw operation, waterjet cutting, including thick plate and large-format material (up to approximately 10ft x 20ft).
Multi-Axis Machining:
5-axis machining, including U-axis configurations, and complex toolpath strategies.
Turning & Mill-Turn Systems:
Vertical turning lathes (VTL), mill-turn centers (long-bed, large diameter, multi-turret, B-axis).
Precision & Non-Traditional Machining:
Wire EDM, sinker EDM, and machining of additive manufacturing parts. Qualifications Proficiency in CNC programming and operation of CNC lathes and milling machines. Strong knowledge of GD&T and blueprint interpretation for aerospace parts. Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidWorks). Hands-on experience with precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, CMM). Background in aerospace manufacturing or another high-tolerance industry strongly preferred. Knowledge of additive manufacturing and post-processing workflows is a plus. Mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of metalworking processes. Ability to safely and effectively use hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment. Forklift certification or experience is beneficial but not required. Requirements Must be able to commute to Carson, CA 90745. Must be able to relocate to Carson, CA 90745 before starting, if not already local.
