CNC Vertical Machinist TibaRay, Inc. - 3.5 Fremont, CA Job Details Full-time 1 day ago Benefits Disability insurance Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Safety equipment provided Life insurance Retirement plan Qualifications Mechanical blueprint interpretation Measurement-based inspection Trigonometry Machine setup Blueprint specification interpretation Interpersonal skills Tooling Machining fixtures Machining tool setup Research Forklift Shop math CAM software Dimensional measurements Continuous improvement CNC quality inspection Attention to detail Brazing Precision measurement in machining SolidWorks Cutting machines 3D modeling Full Job Description TibaRay is developing the Galactica™ linear accelerator platform to bring FLASH radiotherapy—cancer treatment delivered in a fraction of a second—to patients worldwide, with applications across healthcare, non-destructive testing, and security imaging. Our machine shop builds the precision components at the heart of this technology, and we're looking for an experienced machinist to help us deliver high-quality parts that move our mission forward. We're hiring an experienced CNC Vertical Machinist to set up, program, and operate CNC mills producing precision components to tight tolerances. You'll work from technical drawings, recommend tooling and machining strategies, run and inspect parts, and help prepare assemblies for hydrogen brazing. This is a hands-on role in a high-mix, low-volume environment where attention to detail and a drive to improve matter as much as raw experience.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Review new projects and technical drawings to set up and program CNC machines. Adjust machine cutting paths and settings to optimize production while maintaining high-quality standards. Research and recommend tools necessary for cutting specific materials, and program machines accordingly. Conduct test runs and operate machines as needed to ensure quality production. Inspect parts and perform first-article checks to confirm they meet print and tolerance requirements. Assist in prepping assemblies for hydrogen braze and loading the furnace.
Support general shop activities:
preventative maintenance, ordering tooling, prepping material, and small manual machining.
WHO THRIVES HERE
Detail-oriented with a strong quality and safety mindset. Able to work independently with minimal supervision and juggle multiple jobs. A natural troubleshooter who solves problems under tight tolerances. Reliable, with good attendance and clear, early communication when issues arise. A team player who takes ownership and looks for ways to improve the process.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
Minimum 3-5 years setting up, programming, and operating CNC mills with Fanuc controls. 3+ years of Mastercam experience. In-depth knowledge of materials, speeds and feeds, fixtures, tooling, and machining processes. Strong blueprint reading skills, including interpretation of drawings, revisions, GD&T, tolerances, and symbols. Ability to read and comprehend technical specifications, procedures, and work instructions. Proficiency with precision inspection tools—calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, and gauge pins—to verify parts to spec. Solid shop math, including the trigonometry needed for offsets, geometry, speeds, and feeds. Clear communication, a strong desire to learn, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Willingness to learn and understand braze prep for hydrogen ovens.
PREFERRED
Experience setting work and tool offsets, using edge finders, tool presetting, and on-machine probing. Experience with SolidWorks, including 3D modeling and drafting—not just reading 2D prints. 4th-axis or multi-axis machining experience. Manual machining skills (mill and/or lathe) for small jobs. Familiarity with a quality management system such as
ISO 9001.
Technical certificate, apprenticeship, or NIMS certification.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
On-site role in an active machine shop; PPE required and provided where appropriate. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods. Forklift experience a plus (forklift available on-site). Shop hours are 6:00 AM-6:00 PM; occasional overtime as needed. No on-call expectations.
COMPENSATION
Competitive pay depending on experience. This is a non-exempt, overtime-eligible position.
