Our small business operates under a strict AS9100 D-certified quality management system, consistently exceeding the requirements of major prime contractors like Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, and Boeing. Modern Methods is operated out of a single location in Los Alamitos, CA.

Los Alamitos, CA Position Description:
Modern Methods LLC is seeking a skilled, highly communicative CNC Machinist to join our close-knit aerospace manufacturing team in Los Alamitos, CA. Operating under a strict AS9100D quality environment, this role serves as a key bridge on the shop floor to help scale production and offload daily operations from our Quality and Operations Manager. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced precision manufacturing environment, communicates clearly across setup and production handoffs, and possesses strong hands-on setup, machining, and in-process inspection capabilities across multi-axis CNC mills and lathes. Competency in Esprit and continued training in CAM is a plus.
Responsibilities:
  • Setup & Production Execution:
    Set up, prove out, and operate multi-axis CNC vertical milling centers (VMCs) and turning centers according to job travelers, engineering prints, and CAM programs.
  • Shop Floor Collaboration:
    Work directly with the Operations Manager to review setup sheets, CAD/CAM models, and production priorities to ensure smooth workflow execution.
  • In-Process Quality & Inspection:
    Perform setup verification, first-article inspections (FAI), and ongoing dimensional checks using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gages) to satisfy AS9100 quality requirements.
  • Process Offloading & Support:
    Take ownership of repeat setup routines, tool loading, offset adjustments, and machine monitoring to allow senior engineering/management to focus on CAM programming and higher-level QMS administration.
  • Part Traceability & Documentation:
    Maintain complete physical job travelers (F-130), material cert traceability, and inspection sign-offs per company standard operating procedures.
CAM Software :
Work with the shop CAM software to occasionally create CAM profiles to provided customer designs, supporting the Operations Manager / main CAM programmer.
Key Competencies:
  • Seld directive under the supervision of the Ops Manager
  • Able to measure machining operations progress and adjust as needed to achieve the desired outcome.
