Glass Lathe Operator Job Description This role involves operating a glass lathe to manufacture precision glass components and complex bore envelope assemblies. The Glass Worker is responsible for fabricating, finishing, inspecting, and maintaining glass parts to meet strict quality and safety standards in a manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Operate glass lathes to fabricate complex bore envelope assemblies. Cut, gauge, and sandblast bores to specification. Fire polish glass and bore materials. Bead Kovar onto assemblies as required. Perform visual inspections to identify defects and quality issues. Set up, monitor, and perform basic maintenance on equipment. Track yield, maintain production records, and support basic troubleshooting. Maintain inventory levels and work area cleanliness. Train or assist with training other team members as needed. Follow all safety, health, and cleanroom procedures. Essential Skills Strong experience using measurement equipment such as Calipers, Micrometers, and Pin Gauges. Experience working with small parts and assembly. Manual machine operating experience, including making adjustments to machines. Experience following work instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Basic math skills, including measurements, geometry, and proportions. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with chemical handling and work orders. Work Environment The position operates on the 1st shift from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday. The role involves working independently most of the time. The work environment includes exposure to ovens and flames, which can lead to higher temperatures at the workstation. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Marcos, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.
