at Hirsh Industries in Dover, Delaware, United States Job Description Position Summary The machinist will be responsible for setting up and operating machine tools to manufacture, repair, and modify parts and components according to drawings, specifications, and required tolerances. The ideal candidate will have experience with manual machining equipment and be able to accurately inspect completed work. Responsibilities Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and other machine shop equipment Manufacture and repair parts according to drawings, prints, sketches, or existing components Remove, inspect, reinstall/set-up dies regularly for scheduled preventative maintenance Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications Perform accurate measurements using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments Maintain required dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes Determine appropriate tooling, speeds, feeds, and machining methods Inspect completed parts to ensure they meet specifications Troubleshoot machining and product defects Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of machine shop equipment Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area Follow all company and federal safety procedures and manufacturing standards Work with maintenance, engineering, production, and other departments as needed Assist with repair, fabrication, and modification projects throughout the facility Coordinate materials, parts & repairs with commercial vendors for toolroom operations What We're Looking For We are looking for a hands-on machinist and problem solver who can do more than simply operate a machine. The right candidate will be comfortable evaluating a part or repair, determining the best way to machine it, and producing accurate, dependable work.
