GED Full Job Description Position Overview:
The Machinist will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and maintaining custom tooling and fixtures used in avionics production and testing. This role requires strong attention to detail, precision machining experience, and the ability to collaborate with engineers and technicians to turn design concepts into high-quality, functional tools.
Key Responsibilities:
Set up and operate manual and CNC machines (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.) to produce precision tooling and components. Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to fabricate tooling to exact specifications. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to design and improve tooling solutions. Perform inspections to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality standards are met. Maintain and repair existing tooling, fixtures, and jigs as needed. Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized workspace. Document work performed and contribute to continuous process improvement.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training in machining preferred. 3+ years of experience as a machinist, preferably in aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing. Proficiency in operating manual and CNC equipment. Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD/CAM outputs. Familiarity with precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, CMM). Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with aerospace tooling and fixture building. Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing). CAD/CAM programming experience. Welding and fabrication skills a plus.
