Job Title:
Weekend CNC Machinist Job Description This weekend CNC Machinist role focuses on setting up and operating 3-axis CNC lathes and mills to produce high-volume production parts used in the manufacturing of precision products. You will run CNC equipment, load materials, select and run programs based on orders and diagrams, and perform detailed inspections to ensure parts meet tight tolerances. The position involves working primarily with iron, brass, aluminum, and stainless steel, with occasional plastic machining, in a climate-controlled machine shop on a weekend shift schedule. Responsibilities Set up and operate 3-axis CNC lathes and mills to produce production parts according to orders, diagrams, and blueprints. Run CNC machines for high-volume production machining, ensuring consistent quality and adherence to specifications. Select and load appropriate programs for each part based on job requirements and engineering documentation. Load raw materials into CNC machines and monitor machining operations throughout the production cycle. Inspect parts as they come off the machine using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools down to 0.0001 inch. Perform 2 to 3 machine setups per day, including changeovers and adjustments to accommodate different parts and materials. Change out tooling as required and verify correct tooling is installed for each job. Work primarily with iron, brass, aluminum, and stainless steel, with occasional machining of plastic components. Read and interpret basic blueprints and technical drawings to ensure parts meet design requirements. Use additional shop equipment such as drill presses and shears as needed to support machining operations. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in a climate-controlled machine shop. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to address production issues, improve processes, and meet daily output goals.
For more experienced candidates:
perform manual machining operations, assist with editing G-code and M-code, and support continuous improvement of CNC programs. Essential Skills At least 6 months of experience operating CNC machines, including lathes and/or mills. Hands-on experience with CNC machine operation in a production environment. Ability to use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools to check parts to tolerances down to 0.0001 inch. Ability to load materials into CNC machines, select appropriate programs, and run parts safely and efficiently. Basic blueprint reading skills to interpret part requirements and dimensions. Experience working with metals such as iron, brass, aluminum, and stainless steel. Capability to perform multiple setups per day on CNC equipment. Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds as part of daily duties. Familiarity with general machine operating practices, including safe use of drill presses and similar equipment. Comfort working on a weekend shift schedule (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.). Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience setting up CNC lathes and mills, including fixturing, tooling selection, and program selection. Ability to perform changeovers efficiently to support high-mix or high-volume production. Experience with 3-axis CNC machining centers. Manual machining experience on conventional equipment (such as manual lathes and mills). Ability to edit G-code and M-code to fine-tune programs and improve machining performance (considered a plus). Experience with tooling selection, adjustment, and maintenance in a production machine shop. Previous experience working in a climate-controlled machine shop environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts. Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot basic machining and quality issues. Why Work Here? The shift is a dedicated weekend schedule, Friday through Sunday, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., where you work 36 hours and are paid for 40. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and consistent production in a modern machining facility. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ocala, FL.
