You set up, service, repair, align, and test machines that operate on a mechanical and electro-mechanical basis. Skilled with precision measuring tools such as dial calipers, micrometers, and stack height gauges, you perform all machining tasks with exactness. After evaluating procedures, you recommend changes related to the efficiency of setup and production. You perform major overhauls on and rebuild diesel, gas, and air compressors. You disassemble, reassemble, and test towing winch components, mooring winches, capstans, and anchor windlasses as well as hydraulic and mechanical cranes. Additionally, you remove and reinstall generators. You also perform all types of major alignments on components such as gearboxes and engine shafts. You get great satisfaction out of doing your part to ensure that marine vessels operate smoothly and safely!
QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN OUTSIDE MACHINIST 3
years of machining experience (preferred) General knowledge about ships and machinery Knowledge about gearboxes Ability to rig any and all props, shafts, generators, pumps, and engines Ability to align pumps to motors Ability to remove and reinstall generators Ability to take readings on props, shafts, and bearings Ability to pass a drug test Have basic hand tools Shipyard experience is preferred but multiple factors will be taken into consideration. WORK SCHEDULE
This full-time machining position works 40+ hours per week, .weekends are required, the 1st shift typically runs from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM The 2nd shift from 4:30 PM to - 1:00 AM . Evenings and weekends are required when needed.
