Job Description

Job Title:
CNC Milling Operator / Machinist Job Description The CNC Milling Operator is responsible for setting up and operating CNC vertical milling machines to produce precision features on fabricated and welded components. This role supports value-added manufacturing operations by ensuring all parts meet dimensional specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements. The position is ideal for a hands-on machinist with strong setup capabilities, solid machining fundamentals, and experience in a high-mix manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC vertical milling machines to machine components according to engineering requirements. Load, verify, and run CNC programs on the machine, ensuring correct tool and work offsets are set before production. Perform test runs to validate setups and programs, making adjustments as needed to achieve correct dimensions and finishes. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and setup sheets to determine machining operations and sequence. Select appropriate cutting tools and determine correct feeds and speeds based on material, tooling, and part requirements. Make minor program edits and adjustments at the machine to optimize performance and part quality. Perform in-process inspections using standard measuring equipment such as calipers and micrometers to verify dimensions. Maintain dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and overall part quality throughout the production run. Identify machining, quality, or process issues and promptly communicate them to leadership for resolution. Essential Skills Minimum 3 years of experience setting up and operating CNC vertical milling machines. Proven ability to independently set up and operate CNC vertical mills from start to finish. Strong familiarity with Haas CNC machines and Haas controllers. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and setup sheets. Understanding of basic GD&T concepts to interpret dimensional and tolerance requirements. Solid understanding of machining principles, tooling selection, feeds, and speeds. Experience performing precision measurement and inspection using calipers, micrometers, and other standard measuring tools. Ability to load and verify CNC programs and set tool and work offsets. Capability to make minor G and M code edits and adjustments at the machine. Experience working with vertical mills in a production environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts. Ability to identify and communicate machining or quality issues clearly and promptly. Comfort working in a high-mix manufacturing environment where parts and setups change frequently. Why Work Here? The company offers a comprehensive and affordable benefits package designed to support employees' health and well-being. After 60 days, the employer covers a significant portion of health, dental, and vision insurance, resulting in a low weekly cost for employees. The medical plan features a low copay structure and a strong prescription drug benefit, avoiding the high-deductible plans that many organizations have adopted. This reflects a culture that values long-term employee stability, practical support, and providing benefits that employees can realistically use and afford. Work Environment This is a first-shift position with hours, Monday through Friday. The role is based in a shop environment with CNC vertical milling machines, Haas controls, and standard precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers. The facility supports both machining and metal fabrication operations, and employees may occasionally work in the fabrication department when machining demand is lower. Overtime opportunities are available after conversion to a permanent role; overtime is not permitted during the contract-to-hire period. The work area follows established safety standards, with an emphasis on maintaining a clean, organized, and safe workstation appropriate for a precision machining and fabrication environment.
