Job Description

Job Title:
CNC Mill Machinist Job Description This role is a hands-on CNC Mill Machinist position in a dynamic job shop environment that manufactures precision components for the aerospace industry. You will set up and operate CNC mills, verify part quality to tight tolerances, and collaborate closely with the production and quality teams to ensure every part meets exact specifications. Responsibilities Participate in daily team meetings to review the production schedule and priorities for the day. Set up and operate assigned CNC milling cells, typically running one to two machines depending on part cycle times. Coordinate with the quality team to prove out new parts and obtain approval before proceeding with full production runs. Use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools to verify that parts meet specified dimensions. Consistently hold and maintain tight tolerances of +/- 0.001 inches on production parts. Operate CNC mills including HAAS, Doosan, or Mazak machines in a job shop environment. Work with G-code and M-code, including Mazatrol programming, to run parts and make necessary program edits at the machine. Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and other technical documentation to ensure parts are produced to specification. Adjust feeds and speeds as needed to optimize machining performance and part quality. Follow established work instructions, quality procedures, and safety guidelines throughout all machining operations. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors about job status, potential issues, and improvement opportunities. Maintain a clean and organized work area and care for assigned machines and tools. Essential Skills At least 5 years of experience in CNC mill machining in a production or job shop environment. Proficiency in setting up and operating CNC milling machines. Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately. Ability to utilize G-code and M-code to make program edits at the machine. Hands-on experience using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments. Demonstrated ability to consistently hold tolerances of +/- 0.001 inches. Ownership and regular use of personal quality tools such as micrometers and calipers. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts. Ability to follow written work instructions and quality procedures. Effective communication skills for working with production and quality teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience machining parts for the aerospace industry. Experience machining components for the medical industry. Ability to perform complete CNC mill setups independently. Familiarity with HAAS, Doosan, and Mazak CNC milling machines. Experience with Mazatrol programming environments. Experience working in a job shop setting with varied parts and short runs. Why Work Here? Work Environment You will work in a job shop environment with approximately 20 CNC machines, including a mix of mills and lathes, producing precision parts primarily for the aerospace sector. The facility is well lit and organized to support detailed, high-precision work. Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the possibility of additional work up to one hour before and/or after the shift, and a maximum of 50 hours per week, with minimal weekend work. You will operate modern CNC equipment, including HAAS, Doosan, and Mazak machines running G-code and M-code via Mazatrol programming. Safety and professionalism are important, with steel-toe footwear and eye protection required on the shop floor. The environment supports focused, technical work while maintaining a manageable schedule and a strong emphasis on safety and quality. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Bend, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
