Job Description

Job Title:
Makino Grinder Operator Job Description This role focuses on setting up and operating precision grinding equipment to produce high-quality parts for demanding applications, including aerospace. You will perform both outer diameter and inner diameter grinding, hold tight tolerances, and support machining operations using manual or CNC mills and lathes in a clean, climate-controlled facility. Responsibilities Set up and perform changeovers on precision grinders, including Makino and Studer grinding equipment. Operate precision grinders to perform outer diameter and inner diameter grinding of metal parts according to specifications. Grind and smooth metal components to remove defects, sharp edges, and excess material while maintaining required dimensions. Hold high tolerances of approximately +/- .001 inch to meet aerospace-level quality requirements. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work instructions to determine grinding and machining requirements. Use manual mills and lathes or CNC mills and lathes as needed to support grinding and machining operations. Perform surface grinding and other precision grinding tasks using appropriate machines and tooling. Set up and operate CNC machines or manual grinders safely and efficiently to meet production schedules. Use micrometers and other precision measuring instruments to verify part dimensions and ensure quality standards. Monitor machine performance, make necessary adjustments, and troubleshoot basic issues to maintain accuracy and consistency. Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety and quality procedures within the facility. Essential Skills Experience running a CNC machine or manual grinder in a production or job shop environment. Hands-on experience with manual mills or lathes. Ability to perform precision grinding, including outer diameter and inner diameter grinding. Capability to hold tight tolerances of approximately +/- .001 inch. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics. Experience with surface grinding and general grinding operations. Skill in using micrometers and other precision measuring tools. Familiarity with machine operation for mills, lathes, and CNC machining equipment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating Makino and Studer grinders or similar precision grinding equipment. Background in machining for aerospace or other high-tolerance industries. Comfort working with both manual and CNC machining processes. Ability to follow detailed work instructions and quality standards. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills related to machining and grinding. Why Work Here? The role includes a weekend shift option where employees work 36 hours and are paid for 48, within a structured, safety-focused production setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hebron, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $38.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
