Class Outside Machinist Location:
Lockport, LA Position Overview:
A 1st Class Outside Machinist is responsible for installing vessel machinery using blueprints and hand tools, with knowledge of some aspects of air controls and tubing bending.
Key Responsibilities:
Ability to read and interpret standard construction drawings, specifications, and other technical publications. Good working knowledge of system start-up procedures, propulsion system alignment, and machinery plants. Familiarity with commercial and military specifications and standards. Knowledge of how to use necessary tools and equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, heavy jacks, chain falls, torch, etc.) Some experience or background in welding. Install vessel machinery through the use of blueprints and hand tools. Read and interpret standard construction drawings, specifications, and other technical publications. Apply knowledge of system start-up procedures, propulsion system alignment, and machinery plants. Familiarize with all aspects of craft-specific marine construction from design through installation and operational testing. Utilize necessary tools and equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, heavy jacks, chain falls, torch, etc.) Perform tasks related to air controls and tubing bending. Conduct operational testing of installed systems.
Qualifications:
Minimum of one (1) year of marine experience or one (1) year of continuous Company experience required.
Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings. Strong understanding of marine construction techniques and best practices. Ability to use precision tools and equipment effectively. Knowledge of system start-up procedures and machinery plant operations. Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Effective communication skills to collaborate with other team members and departments.
