Job Description

May 21, 2026 CRAFTSPERSON II (MACHINIST) (BAND LEVEL 6) Department of Technical Services (23-Month Contractual Position) This competition may be used to fill identical positions in this unit within three (3) months of the closing date All qualified employees are welcome to , however preference is given to CUPE members The University will consider applications from qualified permanent staff who may be interested in a temporary assignment, subject to departmental approval DUTIES Under general supervision, the Craftsperson II will perform skilled work in the design, construction, installation, testing, calibration, modification, repair, and maintenance of laboratory and scientific equipment and apparatus required for teaching and laboratory purposes. Duties include operating a variety of metal machining tools to perform precision machining operations; repairing, maintaining, and installing a variety of mechanical laboratory equipment; verifying dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments; preparing and interpreting drawings and CAD models; assisting in the design and fabrication of research and teaching equipment; consulting with faculty, staff, and students; and performing other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (3-5 years) at a journeyperson level in machining in a university or related environment; graduation from high school, supplemented by the successful completion of an approved apprenticeship program in machining, is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. Experience working with CNC machines, Mastercam, and 3D CAD would be an asset. SALARY $60,091 - $67,257 per annum (CUPE Local 1615) An upscale hiring step has been applied to this position (Step 6)
