Junior Machinist

Junior Machinist Science Systems and Applications, Inc. 26 To 36 (USD) Hourly United States, Maryland, Greenbelt Apr 09, 2026 Advanced Mission Partners a wholly owned subsidiary of SSAI, seeks a Junior Machinist to help provide support to the procurement team. This is a temporary 3-month training position designed for individuals looking to start a career in machining. Successful completion of the training period, along with approval from the machinist team and Engineering Lead, may lead to consideration for a permanent machinist position. The position is based in Lanham, MD. The Junior Machinist will be exposed to learning the following responsibilities: Review samples, drawings or instructions to understand specifications of output. Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job. Take measurements and mark material for cutting or shaping. Select appropriate machines (e.g. lathes) and position or load material for a job. Determine and program size of batches, speed of machine etc. Monitor machine while working to adjust the feed, maintain temperature and identify issues. Check output to ensure consistency with specifications and report defects. Keep records of approved and defective units or final products. Perform routine machine maintenance and repair minor damages.

Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED. Proficient in English (spoken and written). Knowledge of engineering principles and processes. Experience with advanced prototyping and manufacturing techniques. Skilled in documentation and reporting. Strong ability to work independently and demonstrate self-sufficiency.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to touch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
