Job Title:
Mill Machinist Job Description This position is for an experienced Mill Machinist in a busy machine shop environment in Brighton, MI. You will set up and operate manual and/or CNC milling machines to produce precision components that meet strict customer and internal quality standards. The role requires strong blueprint reading skills, the ability to hold tight tolerances, and a commitment to producing high-quality machined parts in a fast-paced manufacturing setting. Responsibilities Set up and operate manual and CNC milling machines, including vertical mills. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements. Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and materials for each job to ensure efficient and accurate production. Perform machine set-ups, changeovers, and tool offsets as required for each production run. Make minor CNC program edits when needed to optimize machining processes and maintain part quality. Measure and inspect parts using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, and bore gauges. Maintain tight tolerances and verify that all parts meet established quality specifications. Perform basic machine maintenance and keep the work area clean, organized, and safe. Troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and productivity. Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve issues and improve processes. Follow all established safety policies and procedures while operating machinery and handling materials. Essential Skills At least 3 years of experience as a mill machinist. Proven experience with mill machine operation, including set-ups and changeovers. Hands-on experience operating manual and CNC milling machines. Ability to perform some CNC programming and minor program edits at the machine. Strong blueprint and drawing reading skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain tight tolerances on machined components. Proficiency using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, and bore gauges. Solid understanding of machining processes and cutting tools. Ability to troubleshoot machining issues and make appropriate adjustments. Strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with both vertical mills and other manual machine tools such as lathes. Background in a fast-paced manufacturing or production machine shop environment. Familiarity with basic machine maintenance practices. Ability to follow detailed work instructions and quality procedures. Effective communication skills to work closely with engineering, quality, and production teams. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing multiple jobs and setups. Why Work Here? Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brighton, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
