Test Job Summary Performs in the capacity of a journeyman in both Machinist and Mechanic trades, to set up, adjust, operate machine tools and equipment for the purposes of repair, rebuild, produce new and/or reverse engineer new and proto-types parts. Key Accountabilities Manufactures replacement and prototype parts. Sets up, adjusts and operates large complex machine tools such as horizontal boring mills, vertical turning lathes, Blanchard grinders, large engine lathes, etc. Sets up and operates 2 and 3 axis CNC (Computer Numerical Control) lathes and mills, also writes and edits programs for these machines using various computer software and languages. Construct and repair tools, dies, gauges, jigs and fixtures. Performs layout work, make sketches and mechanical drawings, works from blueprints, samples and verbal instructions Works closely with engineers, technicians and other skilled trade persons to reverse engineer, design and modify obsolete or unavailable parts. Uses an array of precision instruments and gauges, hand and power tools. Troubleshoots and performs mechanical maintenance & hydraulic repairs to shop machines and equipment. Rigs and operates fixed and mobile hoisting equipment for lifting, supporting and moving parts, equipment and stock. Travels to Company and other customer locations to take measures and sketches. Assists customer with initial fit, alignment and adjustment. Performs field machining. Assist in training and directing apprentices, shop machinist-mechanics in progression and others as assigned. Qualifications Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Must be a fully qualified journeyman machinist and have successfully completed a company recognized apprenticeship program or must have eight years of verified hands-on experience as a machinist. Additional Qualifications Must take the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) test and attain a "Recommended" score. Employees performing this same job in a satisfactory manner, or have performed the job for at least six months are not required to take a test.- Must demonstrate proficiency on various machine shop equipment. Must have a valid driver's license and meet Company driving standards. Must furnish own tools necessary to do the work. Must work shifts, as assigned.
