Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION
This position is primarily responsible for all machining operations to produce quality products for company customers.
BASIC FUNCTIONS
  • Determines what equipment and specifications are needed; makes recommendations to management.
  • Provides training to fabrication department employees in how to operate the equipment, and set up and recall programs.
  • Establishes and maintains written procedures for the operation of machines.
  • Responsible for preparing programs for CNC milling stations from blueprints or engineering drawings to determine dimension of parts and configuration of cuts. Determines type and size of cutting tools, according to hardness of metal stock and shape of cut.
  • Verifies first part to assure accuracy of program.
  • Sets up and operates all available machine tools and performs progressive machining operations on work involving very close tolerances or unusual requirements to assure quality production goals are achieved.
  • Programs programmable mills and other shop equipment to very close tolerances.
  • Lays out work from blue prints, sketches, written specifications and verbal instructions.
  • Completes a scrap and rework report for any quality errors; submits the report on the day of occurrence.
  • Inspects all work at each step of production to assure compliance with company's Quality Standard Policy and Procedures.
  • Notifies Quality Assurance of any quality variances.
  • Keeps supervisor and lead worker informed of any quality variances.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work station to assure a safe environment.
  • Cleans work area after each completed job; picks up the work area at the end of each shift.
  • Returns all items and tools to their proper place.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
