Job Description

Job Title:
CNC Machinist Job Description This role is responsible for CNC shape cutting of parts used in aerospace work stands and tooling by applying sound machining practices and procedures. You will interpret mechanical drawings and follow standard shop procedures, written instructions, and verbal directions to machine high-quality products. The position relies on hands-on experience and sound judgment to plan and accomplish daily goals while working under direct supervision in a production environment. Responsibilities Set up fixturing and precision measuring equipment to produce an acceptable first-piece part that meets quality requirements. Prepare tooling, fixturing, gauges, materials, and all required paperwork before starting production. Complete all necessary documentation for first-piece approval in accordance with company policies. Keep machinery and the work area clean, safe, well-maintained, and organized at all times. Assist in other production areas as needed to support overall manufacturing demands and customer requirements. Comply with all required personal protective equipment (PPE) usage and machine guarding practices for each job. Perform tool sharpening tasks, adjust offsets, and make necessary adjustments within existing programs based on tool wear. Measure and inspect parts using appropriate measuring tools to verify they meet specifications. Minimize scrap and waste by using materials and labor efficiently and accurately accounting for all parts on each job. Increase product throughput by performing additional operations such as operating multiple machines, deburring, and cleaning parts. Prepare CNC programs, fixturing, materials, and paperwork, including activities such as sharpening, locating, verifying, programming, and editing. Set up and proof CNC machines for production runs to achieve a quality first-piece product. Monitor set-up times and run-times for accuracy and communicate necessary changes or improvements to leadership. Monitor the condition of job-specific tooling and holding fixtures and make authorized changes or replacements as needed or directed. Recommend and implement improvements to machining processes to enhance quality, efficiency, and safety. Write, create, and test CNC programs to support production requirements. Optimize CNC programs to improve cycle times, tool life, and overall process efficiency. Perform adjustments to machines and programs to adhere to established specifications or updated revisions. Essential Skills Hands-on experience in CNC machining and machine operation in a production environment. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints. Proficiency in setting up and operating CNC mills and related machining equipment. Experience with machine operation and manufacturing processes. Ability to use precision measuring equipment to inspect parts and verify dimensions. Capability to write, create, edit, and test CNC programs. Skill in adjusting offsets and performing tool sharpening based on tool wear. Strong attention to detail to maintain low scrap rates and high-quality output. Ability to follow standard shop procedures, written instructions, and verbal directions. Commitment to using required PPE and following machine guarding and safety procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience as a tool and die maker or similar precision machining role. Familiarity with optimizing CNC programs for efficiency and throughput. Experience operating multiple machines and performing secondary operations such as deburring and cleaning. Comfort working under direct supervision while managing multiple tasks and priorities.
