Posted May 22, 2026 CNC Machinist Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to program, set up, and operate CNC mills and lathes to produce precision components. The successful candidate will work with multi-axis equipment (including 4- and 5-axis machines), interpret engineering drawings and GD&T, create and refine CAM programs, and ensure parts meet strict dimensional and surface finish requirements. This role supports production, continuous improvement, and close collaboration with engineering and quality teams to deliver high-quality machined parts from materials such as aluminum, steel, and specialty alloys. Key Responsibilities Program, set up, and operate CNC mills and lathes, including 3-, 4- and 5-axis machining centers and multi-axis equipment.
Create and modify CNC programs using CAM tools (MasterCAM, Fusion 360 or similar) and edit G-code as required to optimize cycle time and part quality.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T to meet specified tolerances and finishes.
Select appropriate tooling, workholding, feeds, speeds and cutting strategies for a variety of materials including aluminum, steel and specialty alloys.
Perform in-process inspections using hand tools, micrometers, calipers and coordinate measuring equipment (CMM); document inspection results and make program adjustments as needed.
Troubleshoot machining issues (tool wear, chatter, fixture problems, NC code errors) and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
Maintain machines, tooling and work areas in a clean, safe and organized condition and perform basic preventative maintenance.
Work with engineering and production teams to support process improvements, cost reduction, and production scheduling.
Follow safety procedures, quality standards and shop floor documentation practices, including job travelers, inspection plans and corrective action records. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; technical diploma, vocational training or apprenticeship in CNC machining preferred.
3+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience; proven experience with multi-axis (4-axis and 5-axis) machining is strongly preferred.
Proficiency with CAD/CAM software such as MasterCAM and Fusion 360 and ability to generate toolpaths and export post-processed G-code.
Strong understanding of G-code, CNC programming concepts and the ability to edit NC programs manually.
Solid knowledge of GD&T, blueprint reading and geometric dimensioning to hold tight tolerances.
Hands-on experience operating mills and lathes and machining materials including aluminum, steel and specialty alloys.
Experience with measuring equipment and inspection techniques, including use of micrometers, calipers, height gauges and CMM.
Good problem-solving skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet production goals.
Physical ability to lift workpieces and tooling as required; willingness to work required shifts and overtime.
Preferred:
certifications in CNC programming, MasterCAM, or similar; prior experience in high-mix, low-volume or aerospace/medical precision machining environments.
