Job Title:
Traveling Night Shift CNC Machinist Job Description This role offers a hands-on opportunity to set up and operate a variety of CNC turning centers and vertical machining centers on the night shift, producing high-precision industrial bearings used in critical power distribution and coolant systems for data centers. You will travel as needed, work with very fine tolerances, and use advanced CNC equipment and precision measuring tools to deliver consistently accurate components in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC turning centers and vertical machining centers to machine industrial bearings to precise specifications. Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to determine dimensions, tolerances, tooling, and machining sequences. Machine components to very fine tolerances, ensuring all parts meet drawing and specification requirements. Use micrometers up to 25 inches, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and maintain tight tolerances. Operate both CNC mills and CNC lathes, adjusting offsets and tool paths as needed to achieve required accuracy. Apply G and M code programming knowledge to set up, edit, and troubleshoot CNC programs as needed for production. Monitor machines during operation, making adjustments to feeds, speeds, and tooling to optimize quality and efficiency. Perform machine setups, including installing and aligning workpieces, fixtures, and tooling for various jobs. Maintain consistent quality by following drawing requirements, inspection procedures, and shop standards. Troubleshoot machining issues, identify root causes of dimensional deviations, and implement corrective actions. Handle and machine industrial bearings and components, some weighing up to approximately 50 pounds, in a safe and controlled manner. Keep work areas clean and organized, and follow all safety procedures related to CNC machining operations. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and support continuous improvement initiatives. Essential Skills Proven experience as a CNC machinist with hands-on operation of CNC lathes and mills. Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings. Demonstrated proficiency with G and M code programming and editing. Experience setting up and operating CNC turning centers and vertical machining centers. Proficiency using micrometers up to 25 inches, calipers, and other precision measuring tools. Ability to hold very fine tolerances and maintain dimensional accuracy per drawing requirements. Solid math skills to calculate dimensions, offsets, and machining parameters. Experience with CNC lathe operations, including horizontal, 2-axis machines with live tooling. Experience with CNC mill operations, including vertical, 3-axis machining centers. Capability to work a consistent night shift schedule with overtime as needed. Qualification and background as a CNC machinist. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating Haas CNC lathes such as SL30 and SL40 with Haas controls. Experience operating Okuma CNC lathes including Genos LB2000-e, LB3000 EXII, and LB45 with Okuma controls. Experience with Fanuc-controlled CNC lathes, including models similar to a 25-inch capacity machine. Experience operating Toshiba TUE 150 vertical turning lathes (VTL) or similar large-format equipment. Experience with vertical machining centers such as Leblond Makino 106 (LM215/LM378) and Haas VF6. Comfort working with vertical, 3-axis CNC machines equipped with Haas controls. Experience using a manual 3-axis Bridgeport mill for secondary operations or tooling tasks. background working with industrial bearings or components for power distribution and coolant systems is a plus. Willingness to travel as required to support production needs at different locations. Why Work Here? You will join a stable manufacturing environment that values craftsmanship, precision, and pride in producing components that support critical data center infrastructure. The role offers consistent full-time hours with built-in overtime, opportunities to work with a wide range of advanced CNC machines, and a supportive culture that emphasizes safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Traveling assignments and night shift work provide additional earning potential and exposure to diverse projects and equipment, helping you grow your skills and advance your machining career.
